Clothes are knitted? crocheted? can't tell, maybe a combination, and fixed to the body. Also a bonnet/hat and a littlecircle under her feet. About 3" tall. Do you know the type?

It's her face I need to redo but I can't find any pictures to work from as I don't know if this sort of doll has a name.

i dont think that style of doll would have a 'face' does it have markings on the area to suggest it had?

TooTicky · 24/08/2007 23:32

She did have a face, but it wore right away in the middle so all you could see was her stuffing. I have re-covered her head.

any idea on how old it may be?

TooTicky · 24/08/2007 23:36

No, I really don't know.

is her face fabrice? could you embroider markings on it IYSWIM?

littlemissbossy · 24/08/2007 23:37

sorry fabric

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 24/08/2007 23:37

any idea if it is a soft sculpt?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 24/08/2007 23:38

this sort of style may work well

TooTicky · 24/08/2007 23:43

They are sweet but don't look familiar - I'd like to redo her as she was but can't picture her in my head.
I have re-covered her head with silk (lucky offcut!). Her stuffing is possibly raw cotton? Embroiderable, yes. Have a feeling she may originally have been painted but I wouldn't dare try as I think it would run and fuzz iyswim. Embroidery much safer.

is this more familar

TooTicky · 24/08/2007 23:55

Mmm...no. Not so babylike. I really appreciate your help btw

TooTicky,if you painted her features on with acrylics then they wouldn't run - to be doubly sure you could test a dot on a spare bit of fabric or the back of the head. I would guess that it was originally painted on but it is just that, a guess.

Sweet little doll!

TooTicky · 25/08/2007 15:10

Thanks
Still can't picture how her face should look though!

how about something like this www.chinapage.com/fu03.html ?

TooTicky · 25/08/2007 15:33

Closer...but not quite. More childlike. Thanks

I had something similar to this. I'm sure the face was painted/printed. Had a tiny rosebud mouth and the eyes weren't realistic, kind of like commas but with the longer bit giving that long cats-eye oriental kind of look if that makes sense (think long liquid eyeliner!)! Not sure about the nose.. a dot if anything.

I bet it's somewhere inthe house (I attached it to a keyring as a child!) but couldn't guess where I'm afraid.

I'm sure these little dolls used to be really quite common (not in a nasty way!) but they seem to be quite untraceable on the net

SoupDragon · 25/08/2007 15:46

Mine wasn't common, she was very refined

TooTicky · 25/08/2007 15:49

I'm sure I had some when I was little. This is one my dad gave to dd1 - he has died since so it seems rather important to restore this one.

I had a cursory look for it (I looked in one possible box out of 100s!) to no avail. I' sure I've seen it fairly recently (as in the last couple of years which is quite recent given I've had it for over 20!)
