Etsy Feedback

I recently started on Etsy but sales are so slow compared to craft fairs at which I've done well. I've tagged as well as I think I can.

Does anyone have the time to have a quick look at my page and give me some feedback?

Thank you!

@ItchyFeet16 I've just looked at your page and there are a few things which I feel may be hindering your sales.

Firstly, you have no reviews. You do have 3 sales. Are you in a position to obtain a review or two from those sales? Previous customer experience is something I really look for when shopping handmade.

Secondly, while your photography is light and well arranged, some of the pictures show some creases in your products. As a crafter, I know this is likely superficial. A face-to-face customer could check the stitching and would recognise that a light press with an iron would do the trick, but an online customer has to take things at face value and may be concerned that there was an issue with the construction.

Thirdly, you offer a single-sized product and no custom option. My dining table is 200cm in length (I know because I recently had reason to measure it). Two runners would be too long, and one would be too short. In offering just the one size, anyone with a table either longer or shorter is going to scroll on by.

Lastly, your pricing is more expensive than other sellers sell similar products for. However, I am firmly of the belief that your time is valuable, and I don't think you should look at shifting your prices. Either the product is financially viable, or it is not.

The first you should try to change, the second and third you can definitely change, and the last I wouldn't budge on. This is all constructive criticism of course, and you are welcome to take it or leave it. Good luck with your venture!

I also think it's quite pricy given that it's not (obviously) made to order. I'm sure it's good quality but it's hard to tell that from a screenshot.

So either you have the margin to reduce it, in which case I probably would, or you don't, in which case it's worth having fewer high value orders.

Also worth noting that when I searched "table runners" there were > 71,00 results. Realistically I would go beyond the first few pages unless I were looking for a very specific item. I don't know how you bump up your listing, but I do think that would help.

what jookiwooki said. Definitely different sizes, would you consider round and oval tablecloths? A rectangle is 'I could make this myself' level but I'd be happy to outsource cutting and hemming an oval.

The About text could do with a bit of polish - put a bit of a marketing spin on it so that it looks more professional. Write about yourself in the third person. It's about the product, not you.
I don't particularly think they are overpriced, but I haven't looked at the competition.
Custom sizes would probably be a good idea.
I found the colours a bit muted - but that might be me - I don't have the same taste as other people.

It might be worth mentioning that you also sell at craft fairs.

Apologies for the extremely belated reply. I posted at a time when I was flat out preparing for craft fairs to make the most of the Christmas market then promptly forgot to come back on and thank you all. Sorry! Blush

Your feedback was really useful. I took on board your comments and over the past few months have improved the quality of photography and refined and improved my copy too. I now also sell most of the runners in two lengths. I have (positive) reviews now which vouch for the quality, so hopefully getting there... Smile They are all carefully handmade with mitered corners, using high quality fabric and I'm offering a unique product which is comparable price wise to mass produced products in the likes of JL etc.
