I'm trying to crochet these but am not familiar with increasing circles in crochet.... Can anyone shed any advice. www.thepatchworkheart.co.uk/2014/11/christmas-baubles.html?m=1

I can't seem to find a pattern that I understand. I'm great at crochet but I need specific help and instructions 😂 🎅

This is by using an attic 24 pattern but I want to cover real Christmas baubles rather than stuff them. And I'm stuck because it's not curving like I need it to

Heeeeeeelp

Actually, your picture looks very similar to the ones on the pattern site. They look like a slightly flattened bowl, that then fills out when you put it on the ball. Have you tried it on a bauble to see how it forms out?

I've made several covered baubles with a lacy pattern, and it looks very nearly flat while you are crocheting it. When you're finished you set the bauble in the middle and cinch up the top, and suddenly it's round and perfectly covers the ball.

The one you're using doesn't really seem to be an actual pattern, more like someone's method. Which is fine, but not if you're running into trouble because there's no help there!

This is the pattern that I have used and particularly liked:

Here's the link to several more of that writer's patterns. You may find one there that you like better: More Bauble Patterns

To answer your actual question (I am very good at tangents), the way to increase in the round is to do an increase every other stitch. If you want the increase to be a gradual slope, do an increase round, then a plain round, then an increase round. If you want a sharp increase, do an increase every round. Same but opposite for decreasing.

@doublenegativepanda thank you. The attic 24 pattern I used in the pic, here's is much smaller so I got confused as to how to continue on confuse. I also can't think how it joins at the top or how to decrease it because I don't really understand. I think most patterns do two circles and join around the bauble

Can you define sharp versus gradually... Maybe I need to try it with plain wool and just see. Just haven't had the time to play about I hoped it would work first time. Don't know if I'm being silly but the pattern you used, is that the same link as the one I linked to

This is the pattern I used in the pic which is too small so If I knew how to continue it that would be fab. Her tutorials are great usually I've used so many. I don't think I have the patience to sit through a video, too much of them drive me nuts

I so appreciate the help ♥ once I know how to do them I'll be flying

Second attempt failed. I think the flecked wool is confusing and making it harder to read and check the stitches. Followed a recipe and went completely wrong by skipping a step, so third time lucky 🤞

When I get home from work (which will be quite late, I have a stupid Christmas thing to attend) I'll take a good look at your pattern and see if I can help a little.

@Myshitisreal here's a thread I started to get all of us yarnies in one place, if you'd like to join!

Knitting and Crochet are Post-Apocalyptic Life Skills

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 11/12/2019 22:22

i think what she is doing is

loop
12 trebles into the loop (first round)
2trebles into each gap so 12 petals, maybe with 1 or 2 chain between them...1 chain with make it a tighter ball, 2 will be wider (2nd round)
3 treble into each gap...again decide on your spacing chain depending how fat your bauble is (3rd round)
same again for 4th round

then round the equator I think she is doing single trebles, but only on the top half...
you then make a bottom half and join that in to the single equator round ...sewing I guess

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 11/12/2019 22:25

posted too soon....

for bigger baubles you could do more rounds and then your equator

for smaller ones maybe do half trebles instead of trebles

I reckon it is two half circles because if you did the whole thing as one you'd have to do decreasing clusters on the bottom half and you'd never get your bauble in!

Myshitisreal · 11/12/2019 22:41

I've done it. But I don't think it's half as nice as I would have hoped 😂

You're all wonderful. Thanks so much for the help. Ohhhhh a thread thank you ♥

It looks lovely! If you use smaller yarn, the bauble shows through more if that's what you want. Alternatively, you could completely cover it too.

Myshitisreal · 12/12/2019 10:03

Awwww bless you. I used standard wool and a size 5 hook. I need to find something else to make xx
