Do you like bits in your soap?

I'm having a go at making soap and was just wondering if people prefer smooth soap or like to have bits in their soap. For example , sliced up orange, lemon, lime - all cut up into at least quarters.

Thanks in advance

I can cope with one large bit. Not keen on lots of chunks. Also it blocks the drains if it’s bits of peel.

I wouldn't want bits in my soap, or want soap as a gift.

Lucylouxc · 09/12/2019 18:06

No bits!

ExpletiveFairylighted · 09/12/2019 18:12

No bits. They look nice but they are a nuisance. Swirls of colour are nice though.

I've got bits of lavender in mine at the moment which I quite like. It adds to the nice smell and it is quite exfoliating when I use it.

Thats pretty unanimous!! I must admit that is what I thought but looking at google there are lots of recipes with bits!

I prefer it to soap in my bits Grin

TuttiCutie · 09/12/2019 20:32

I like bits, I'm using a coffee soap at the moment, it's full of coffee grounds.

What recipe are you using please?

CathyorClaire · 09/12/2019 20:48

No. Scratchy.
Also annoying when freed from their soapy prison to float in the water and block the drain.

SnugglySnerd · 09/12/2019 20:50

I like the idea of bits but they all collect I'm the bath and have to be rinsed and then block the drain. Something that dissolves like sea salt in ok.

No, but ds made a batch of cold process soap at the weekend which was sweet orange and mandarin, and he'd dried some orange slices to press onto the top of the loaf, and sliced it looks nice and will only be a little bit to pick off in use

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 09/12/2019 20:57

Coffee grounds in hand soap for added scrubbiness I can cope with, but wedges of lemon etc are hideous. I don't even like dye in my soap and I rarely use fragrance (I make my own and have done for a long time).

Also on my "just No!" list are glitter, fecking rosebuds, melt and pour anything and excessively coloured or messed about with soaps. There are facebook groups full of people who think that soap needs to glittery, carved, modelled and embedded with all sorts of nonsense. I just like the purity of plain, unscented or lightly scented soap.

If you are making soaps for people with children, it's always worth asking yourself if a child is likely to try to eat anything you add to the soap.

YouWereRight · 09/12/2019 21:57

I quite like coffee grounds or oats, but otherwise, it's a no. I also only like natural colours.

MadameButterface · 09/12/2019 22:00

No bits, i’ve been put off ever since at playgroup once (years ago) i thought they’d got fancy soap with little bits in but they were actually mouse droppings 😭

ElleEfarr · 09/12/2019 22:05

My tired brain read the thread title as "Do you like soap in your bits?" Shock

KatherineJaneway · 09/12/2019 22:06

Smooth soap only here. I assume bits are grit / dirt

Legomadx2 · 09/12/2019 22:14

No

Whoops75 · 09/12/2019 22:18

No bits
No perfume

Not sure what I would do if I got a bar of soap, none of the sinks have a place for it.

MadameButterface · 09/12/2019 22:27

Oh i’m obsessed with bar soap now, would never go back. So much cheaper and better for the environment, i stock up at tk maxx twice a year, you can get soap dishes that stick to your tiles with suction cups.

Marcipex · 02/01/2020 11:51

No bits.
I don’t mind one decorative bit on top eg orange peel as a pp said. Not that I would use orange soap anyway.
Much prefer baby soap .
