Knitting with Large needles? Is it difficult?

Hi,
The subject line says it all...
I have just started knitting and have completed two pairs of mittens. (So chuffed!!)

My dd1 would like me to knit a scarf for her. All the patterns I have seen seem to use large needles. So are they more difficult to knit with than thinner needles?
It will take me about a year to knit a scarf with 4mm needles.
Thanks

No, it's easier, elk. You have to keep the tension looser, but generally speaking, it's far easier with the bigger needles.

hi Elk - I'm a rubbish knitters but started out with big needles and it seemed pretty easy - well done for actually making mittens - I can only do scarves !!!

Thanks a lot,
Now I just need to get some bigger needles and some wool that dd1 likes (probably the most difficult bit).
MAS - my mother helped a lot with the first mitten and then I had to do it on my own. My main problem is keeping count of stitches whilst the 2 dd's talk at me.

The Stitch n Bitch book (which is designed for beginners) actually has the first main project using big needles IIRC... it's great because you get your project finished much more quickly! Very encouraging when you're starting out.

If you knit with 2 different size large needles you get an interesting effect too

Ooo ... I've never tried that... sounds fun Iklboo
