So decided to do wax melts which smell Devine but cannot get them to look flat. When they are set if that makes sense . What am I doing wrong .can anyone help me please.

Sorry what do you mean by flat?
I use ice cube trays to mould the melts and they look pretty uniform to me.

Hi many thanks for getting back to me . I might try the ice cube trays I would like mine to look like the shop bought ones . Can I ask you what temperature you pour at please. I just need to keep practicing I think yours sound fab though.

I cant remember where I got them from but my ice cube trays are small squares so I only half fill them.
I pour the melted wax in the mould straight after ive mixed the fragrance in so I guess just under 60c. I then give a little tap to get any bubbles to the surface.
Hope that helps!

They wax that you use may be a 2 pour wax. 3/4 fill them on the first pour, leave them for half an hour, re melt the wax still in your jug and top them all up.
Make sure you are CLP compliant if you are selling or gifting them.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 20/10/2019 09:11

Temperatures always depend on which wax you are it using

Thank you so much for the information. It is 464 golden wax blend I use . Will give your suggestion a try .

464 is not formulated for melts, its for candles. I can recommend Kerasoy pillar blend. You will get much better results

I’ve just ordered bits to try making candles, are there any blogs/YouTube videos you’d recommend?

Sugarplumfairy65 · 09/11/2019 21:24

I would avoid YouTube and instead join some of the UK candle making groups on Facebook.
Candle Making for Candle making UK or Taking the Wick are a couple of good ones

Ive tried making candles a few times but i just cant find a decent recipe!

Sugarplumfairy65 · 10/11/2019 00:41

There is no such thing as a perfect recipe for scented candles. There are so many different things to take into consideration. Wax, wicks, fragrance oils, containers.
Testing just one fragrance can take weeks to get right. Plus there are some strict regulations that you have to comply with even if you are just gifting scented candles that you've made yourself.

@whymewhyme i've got a pretty reliable recipe using soya wax. If you'd like it, let me know and I'll pm it to you.
