I'm looking to find out a bit more about vintage rocking horses! Does anyone happen to know if a Lines Brothers small sport unit would be suitable for a 4-5 year old child? Or would she soon outgrow it?

TIA

I googled to see the horse in question and my sister had one of those for her kids. They did outgrow it by around 7-8 but kids of that age aren't interested in rocking horses anyway OP. They are quite a short-lived toy really. If you want one just get it. They look lovely anyway.

I know need to see it as an heirloom and beautiful piece as well as just for DD!

Rocking horse addict...That will be me :)

Prices depend on make, assume you mean ''Sportiboy''?...
Often it is the adult that yearns for one, and the child is the ''excuse''...

One in original condition will keep it's value more than a restored one {depending on the standard of the restoration}
Sportiboys are quite 'common' and were made well into the 20th century, so are not too expensive.
Another ''workhorse'' make that is very affordable are ''Collinsons''...

There are lots of misdescribed horses out there, and don't be paying too much for one...

A horse that won't be outgrown is a good idea.. {eg, mum can have a go} Children can climb on using a chair :)

Things like missing mane, tail, stirrups are not a problem as can be easily replaced.
