Remember a business card has two sides. You could put company logo, name, phone number on one side and an about on the other maybe with shrunk logo.

Your Facebook, Instagram are they intuitive from you company name? Usually just the little site specific symbol is sufficient to let people know you're on those platforms.

PaddingtonMare · 18/09/2019 21:20

What is the one most important thing you want them to do on getting your card? Read what you do? Look at your insta? Email you? Make that the most important thing - you probably don’t need anything after that.

BritInUS1 · 18/09/2019 21:24

What do you do?
When will you be giving them out?

SamBeckett · 18/09/2019 21:31

If you can make the logo light coloured so it can cover the whole card but the writing can bee seen clearly on top of it.
Print small but use contrasting colours.

I would put your postal address on too.

Your company name should reflect what you do , I find it annoying if I see a company name / logo but can not tell what there business is .

Unless you are going to rely heavily of FB advertising / trade I would not bother with that detail on the front

Remember cards have two sides to them .

So I would go ;
front - company name / logo
your name
your position in the company,

Mobile and land line number
email address
postal address
back;
FB twitter instergram ,

second person in the company name contact details
Something you are proud of regarding the company ie a bakers that can do vegan cakes , a landscaper that specialises xyz plant , a garage that deals with vintage cars, cleaners that only use enviro friendly stuff etc

Get the very best quality cards that you can afford , yours must stand out amongst the 100s out there

Focus on design as it's for a craft based business, think Moo rather than Vista Print.

Also how do business cards fit your business ethos, if the goal is to be 100% recycled, ethically sourced, zero waste then business cards go against that model.

When will you use them and who will you give them to? Are they a necessary item? Is there an alternative?

KatyMac · 19/09/2019 00:38

Wow you guys are brilliant - I sell on fb but my name on that and Instagram are the same as my company's name

Logo is, I think good (I got it on mn)

Yes sustainability is massively important at the moment they are a little naive printed out at home - I don't think moo or vistaprint are really me

Currently I have a double/folded card with a space to write what the person is interested in, in the middle

Loads to think about - thanks

The more I think about it the more I wonder if I do need a card

However last night at a netwroking meeting everyone was asking for them - I was wondering how sad I would sound saying that it's vbetter for the environment if you just like my FB/IG page Grin

And also some of my potential customers are potentially less IT literate

It does bare thought - if I had an embroidery machone I could programme my logo and sew it on scraps of material...... Hmm

I like moo. You could get a few small cards eg 2cm x 4cm nicely done with what you do or an image of it and then your insta/fb on the other side and only get a small run printed.

Instead of asking for follows, you should follow them! You can use targeted ads to reach them or dm them a day or two after meeting them.

How do your non tech customers contact you? Website? Email? Phone?

Unless your logo is clear and good at small sizes I wouldn’t go down the embroidery route - it’s not easy to make a logo look good.

KatyMac · 20/09/2019 10:27

Yes my logo would be a nightmare!

I don't have any customers yet so I'm a bit lost with it all! Following them is good - not thought of that Smile

Lots to think about!

Moo also do cards made from recycled cotton T-shirt's so there's the environmental link there too

TipseyTorvey · 20/09/2019 15:20

What about making business cards out of memory sticks that are the same size as a normal card. That way you can load lots of images of your work onto it and the person is left with something useful they'll keep and always remember your business. I had a load done for an event and they went down really well.

KatyMac · 20/09/2019 18:23

How about a note on my stall/stand saying

"In order to reduce environmental impact I am not using business cards and these are my contact details if you would like to make a note of them"

OP posts:
RippleEffects · 20/09/2019 18:38

What about having a couple of printed contact detail sheets/ cards out at a time and a note saying why not go green and take a photo rather than a flyer, as an alternative to saying take a note.

KatyMac · 20/09/2019 18:54

Take a photo - genius!

Thanks

Tinuviel · 20/09/2019 20:38

How about a notice with a QR code that takes them to your Facebook page (or website or whatever).

SamBeckett · 20/09/2019 22:16

The photo is a great idea , I have a app on my phone called SnapBizCard
When I use it to take a photo of a business card it automatically puts all the info on the card straight into the right places in my phones address book. It saves time and mistakes . You could suggest this to your customers then hopefully when they use the app again it will remind them of you

Or how about personalised pencils, I know you would not get a lot of info on there so perhaps just your website / company name / FB . Argos and IKEA have been doing it for years and they know a thing or two about advertising .

One example here you can get 100 for £40 , you can buy in smaller batches too.

KatyMac · 20/09/2019 23:30

Can't manage the QR by tomorrow Grin

The app sounds good

I have some great ideas - thanks

My very corporate cards are logo name and quacks on the first side, contact details on the back

inwood · 20/09/2019 23:33

Nope, no quacks! Qualifications! I wish mn had an edit button...

SamBeckett · 21/09/2019 00:29

@inwood I really wanted your card to have quacks on it and you be a duck trainer Grin

SamBeckett · 21/09/2019 00:29

@KatyMac
Let us know how your day goes

KatyMac · 21/09/2019 18:12

It worked ok

The extinction rebellion people said it was a bit discriminatory as not everyone has a mobile phone - but I offered pen and paper to them
