Bunting - Help with costing please ?

I've been asked to make about 20ft of bunting and it will be lined. Around 2-3 different fabric designs (cotton). How do I cost for this ? per flag ? I've looked at other high quality handmade bunting offered online and it works out about £1.60 per flag.
I've worked out I'd need roughly 28 flags whch comes in at roughly £45.00. Does this sound fair or should I add a bit more, as I have to buy the fabric too. I don't want to appear greedy but equally I don't want to be out of pocket. I made some beautiful lined bunting today, roughly 51" with 8 lined flags but it was a gift so no idea of cost ?
Any advice welome :-)

Have a quick google/etsy search and see what similar items are going for. Will you be machine or hand stitching? As that makes a massive difference

Hi, thank you ! Machine stitching... Images for reference.

Cost of materials, so fabric, lining, thread, ribbon anything else you'll need

  • decent hourly wage for you x number of hours it will take to make

If you have an overlocker it will make life easier.

Cut your bunting back and front pieces - overlock the edging pieces together in a complimentary or contrast clour with a rolled hem stitch so that it will be on the outside rather than the inside - then you don't have the pain of turning it all inside out and pressing it - and it can also create a feature to the edge - and if the top is inside a folded over finishing you don't need to stitch the top - all of that saves you time !!

Also - for the sake of your hands look at electrics shears / scissors - you can cut about 10 thicknesses of fabric at a time - standard scissors will wreck your knuckles over time.

And if your backing is just a plain colour then buy 'sheeting fabric' - it is a high quality cotton and comes in a myriad of colours.
My bunting pricing is slightly different to you - as I also have a computerised embroidery machine - so I charge £0.75 for a blank, £1.75 for a letter, £2.50 for a picture / emoji that I already have and then £3.50 for a picture that I need to download and digitise.
Nice lace topping finishing is about £4.00 for 5m.

Hope that helps - pm me if you want more help - I run a sewing school so can give you some pointers.
