I want to go to a Knitting Camp

I want to go camping somewhere nice and also knit, and make new friends who like to knit.

I think you can do this in america but, bizarely, not here.

Filly, I think you've just identified a gap in the market! Set one up yourself!

Well, we didn't do camping, but had a lovely fibre-crafts retreat here in the Borders in May. Sadly, only 5 people came.... I was planning to do it again in Oct, but had a lovely surprise (baby due in December) so have had to rethink.

I think the American 'camp' doesn't involve tents though, as for them camp seems to be more a get-away-from-it-all holiday rather than under canvas.

Keep an eye out for Woolfest in Cumbria next summer - that's meant to be rather wonderful. Hopefully I'll manage to get a retreat up and running again once the LO is a little bigger.

I agree thelady, cut out the tents and make it nice and luxurious and you'll get more people interested....contgratulations by the way!

yes but if its luxurious its more pricey. I suppose caravans would be allowed...

i just went to a fabulous 4 day festival of juggling and suchlike. I think similar could be done for knitting.

I'm sure you could organise something. For me, it was quite hard finding a way to make it pay - have to cover teachers expenses, food, knitting supplies, advertising, insurance....

We had a lovely time here at the hotel, but I didn't make any money out of it, and I was one of the two teachers. Lots of work, lots of fun, but I'm still trying to run a business . If you could find a way to tag it onto an already-organised gathering then it would probably be less expensive.

I've heard of SkipNorth where they stay in a youth hostel and travel to various wool shops - google should find it - in mid-Spring.

but what was SO nice about this festival was that it was just a space for people to meet and chat and share skills.

aside from the fact that next summer i will have a small baby, in addition to the rest of my menagerie, there is also the fundemental problem that I think knitters are expecially pro-comfort.

It could be like the old American patchworking societies, where you worked and gossiped together whilst in the process of producing a fantastic price of craftwork.
