Hi there
Doing a baby cardigan and on one of the pattern rows the abbreviation yb appears.
I am having brain freeze and can't remember it! Have googled it but the answer I got dosen't make sense in the context of the pattern
The row goes:
K2 yf sl1 yb k2 yf etc etc.
does it just mean that yb means take the yarn to the back of the work? or do I have to wrap it round the needle??
TIA

I think it means

Knit two, yarn forward, slip one, yarn behind, knit two, yarn forward

I think you end up with pretty little holes

HTH

Yurtgirl · 28/07/2007 21:21

I am thinking about it now - and without actually getting needles out I cant work out what yarn forward and yarn behind would actually involve

Its never been my strongest point - ie I prefer to knit without holes!

Desiderata · 28/07/2007 21:21

It means Yarn behind/back.

You slip the yarn to the back of the needle.

Desi....didn't have you down as a knitter..

As I speak have a 3/4 finished jumper I did for DS....was 3-6months old....he's now over a year....

SpookyMadMummy · 28/07/2007 21:26

So no wrapping yarn round?
Thanks Ladies

Niki - it's one of the few things I do rather well

Blandmum · 28/07/2007 21:28

no wrapping I would read that as Yarn forwards, yarn back

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 28/07/2007 21:28

Really? I'm liking you a lot...

Oooh...do you crotchet too? I do binkies for DS - he loves them...only basic ones though....need to find some fancy but easy crotchet stitch...oooh I feel a book shop trip coming on tomorrow!!!

Desiderata · 28/07/2007 21:31

I have to admit, I'm a bugger for not finishing things myself!

Spooky, it's difficult to explain and you might make a few mistakes on the first row.

It will, believe me, make perfect sense. Do, quite literally, what it tells you to do.

Knit 2
Put the yarn at the front of the work (no wrapping).
Slip on stitch on to the other needle (in other words, don't knit it)
Put the yarn at the back of the word (no wrapping)
Knit 2
etc

I don't know if it's a 4 row pattern/6 row or whatever, but it will quickly become clear.

Honest

Desiderata · 28/07/2007 21:32

I haven't crocheted in years, but I do like it.

I spend too much time on here at the mo!

SpookyMadMummy · 28/07/2007 21:36

I am usually a crocheter! Might go back to it after I have finished this!!

I want to crotchet a stunning blanket now......

Why do I get this creative phases that I never see through??!!

Desiderata · 28/07/2007 22:17

Oh, tell me about it.

In my head, I want to be a woman who has a rustic yet sparkling home, a smelly dog, a baker, a kitchen table (never had one of those), and fresh smelling dressing-gowns, that I knitted myself

The reality is somewhat different.

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 28/07/2007 22:19

I want to be uber organised instead of having piles of paperwork falling on my toes when all I'm reaching for is the fecking car keys!!!

SpookyMadMummy · 28/07/2007 22:27

Right have done the first patt repeat and its working! Thanks ladies!

Ah, that's great, Spooky.

Knitting is easy when you know how

SpookyMadMummy · 29/07/2007 07:43

Desiderata, I have knitted for years, but this one had me a bit stumped!
Going back to crochet and cross stitch when I have finished this cardigan!

hmm

its a bit worrying, really, isn't it, just how many knitters ARE in of a saturday night...

Desiderata · 29/07/2007 17:09

It's a clique!

FillydoraTonks · 29/07/2007 17:21

its ok, i quite understand, I spent MY saturday night sitting in a tent, surrounded by young trendy things bopping away to loud live music, nodding sagely and knitting this in lousisa harding's grace (purple) . It was much better than any of that smelly stuff they were putting in their cigarettes.

Desiderata · 29/07/2007 17:24

Hippy!

FillydoraTonks · 29/07/2007 17:25

it is gorgeous yarn though. the picture does not do it justice

Desiderata · 29/07/2007 17:26

It does look lovely. How far did you get with them?

FillydoraTonks · 29/07/2007 17:30

ok i only did 10 rows

but there was NO light, and it did involve cabling (very easy cabling but cabling in NO LIGHT is not fun) and also, I was forced to use bamboo skewers in place of dpns after a freak accident with a cricket game (ie the kids used my dpns as sodding wickets )
