Anyone else love a crafty bargain from a charity shop?

I volunteer in one of the charity shops near me and we get so many lovely crafty donations. I was filling up the craft section yesterday with loads of odd balls of yarn, pieces of patchwork fabric and boxes and boxes of unused coloured pencils. We quite often get cross stitch kits, tapestry kits, paints, easels, beads... you name it, we get it.

Our policy is "price to sell" so large cross stitch kits go out at a fiver, tapestry kits about £7 or £8, acrylic yarn is 2 balls for a pound, and we have endless supplies of knitting needles too.

Currently knitting a scarf/wrap thing with two part balls of sock yarn I picked up last time I was in, no idea what it is but it feels very woolly, either 100% or something like a 80% wool 20% nylon mix. It's lovely. Bright red, pinks and purples. Lovely to work with too. And because it was two part balls with no labels to tell us what it was, my colleague had priced it and put it out for £1.50. BARGAIN!!

We have a local charity craft shop - absolutely fantastic. You need to keep visiting as you never know what's been donated. If you need knitting needles or crochet hooks they have drawers full.

Where I used to live I had a few charity shops that I visited regularly because they all had great fabrics and yarn! Honestly you could really get great fabrics for great prices. I also enjoy the idea that someone bought it all to make something and I feel like if it’s from a deceased estate, then that person would be happy that someone is enjoying that fabric now.

A charity craft shop would be my idea of HEAVEN. We just have a wee corner. We do keep it well stocked though.

We see a LOT of fabric, mostly dressmaking fabric but upholstery/curtain fabric too. Lots of cross stitch kits and tapestry kids. Card making supplies and stamps and things are popular too. It all sells very well, especially the yarn.

What doesn't really sell is the knitting patterns - why would you when a lot of them are very dated and you can get everything on Ravelry?

A Charity Craft Shop! What a good idea. I'd go there all the time.

Knitting patterns may get popular again-I had an email saying Ravelry is coming to an end!

Noooo.... Ravelry can't be ending!!

Off to google....

My mam buys bags and bags of knitting patterns from charity shops. She uses them as a base and alters them as she goes. She never writes the alterations down though she only she can replicate them 😂
