My crochet blanket is v heavy

I am new to crochet but have been making a blanket the width of a double bed. It was 150 slip stitches in the first row then three triple stitches into every third hole, if that makes sense. I am using chunky acrylic wool. Anyway it is half done and lovely - I am so proud of it. But it is also so so heavy. To pick it up weighs a ton and I think it will only be helpful for a few weeks of winter.
My other kids want one too. Am going to do theirs single bed width. Any suggestions for making the weight lighter?

I'm currently making DS2 a blanket out of crocheted squares and am using aran weight cotton. I made one for DS1 and it is still quite heavy but I made a baby blanket out of DK cotton and that was much lighter (although obviously somewhat smaller!)

The cotton I'm using for the boys was originally labelled as DK on the website but this has now changed and it's definitely thicker than the stuff I used for the baby blanket.

I usually buy from Wool Warehouse.

Hi

I made a blanket out of Dk sirdar baby bamboo. It's double crochet, it's heavy. Works great in summer as you get the weight but it's airy so you don't overheat. In winter it's useful as an extra layer. I'm sure yours will be fine
