Have a look in my profile, and there is a photo of a heart with the name Katie on it, I made it for a friend and they were over the moon with it, you can write a message on the back. Everyone that has seen it said I should start making them for other people and try to sell them. How much would you charge if you were selling this?

I have got it on ebay at the moment and wondered why it wasn't shifting.

I did door hangers -the disgusting padded heart shaped ones! Also cushions bedding etc. I tried to have range of prices but i think the important thing to start with is making sure you get the right description with the right words that will get your items listed when people search. I used laura ashley fabric which was v.popular. If you have a counter at the bottom -how many people have found you? Look at the other lady's counter and compare...
She has been going for a while now so she is known for what she does, hence when you asked I could quite easily find her.

I have lowered the price to £8.50 inc p&p, see what you think of the write up cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160129113842

have a look at these wooden door hangers...

loopyredangel · 25/06/2007 21:45

They are simple and pretty, but it wouldn't not be worth while me making them after the costs involved for a price similar to theirs!

Just had another look and the heart shaped door hangers would get people into your shop as they are of a similar style to others already out there. However, your bespoke door signs should be thing that will make you diferent to others and also bring in the money!
I did the door hangers with laura ashley fabric so as to attract peoples attention but it was the un named fabric that made the most money. Also the bespoke items -bedding for a baby's hanging crib using laura ashley fabric, making a bespoke seating pad for a pew ect that made me good money also. You'll be amazed how many people see one item and then have a look at your other items.

muppetgirl · 25/06/2007 22:01

Like the description, shows all the differnet possibilities. Would use the word shaker/shabby chic/french chic in your description as broadens your market. Have a search using these words yourself and see the similar style to yours...
What about listing a boy's one also? Or maybe adding another photo to your listing showing other designs that you do?

I might get painting some generic ones and see how they go along with the personalised ones. Waiting on some more supplies of smaller hearts so I can make a personalised wooden garland, hopefully they will go down well too.

Can you make the hearts yourself? MDF is so cheap and that would really reduce costs?

loopyredangel · 25/06/2007 22:11

Have renamed it, so hopefully that will get a few more looking - SHABBY CHIC/SHAKER PERSONALISED HEART DOOR PLAQUE

Unfortunately we haven't got the space to make my own - wish I had!

I had a go at selling plain mdf wooden hearts with a drilled hole and a threaded ribbon and marketed them as party bag fillers/children's party activities. I sold 3 for £2.99 (I think) and got my dad to make them!! He had a jigsaw, the price per heart was pence, 8p-20p ish (sorry can't remember exact figures) I never decorated them as not that talented!
