Help on making tea-light lanterns please.

I'm making some lanterns. I have some small tin cans and have done a punched-hole design. So far so good.
They are small (only 3.5" high) and probably easily knocked over so it seems best to make them hanging. This is where my problems begin. What can I use to hang the lantern, bearing in mind the hanging-strap will be above a flame. I thought maybe a white-metal chain but can't find what I want.
Any ideas, preferably cheap?

How about taking apart a wire coat hanger and cutting it to size with some pliers?

Something like this?

What about punching two holes on the rim and using a doubled length of fuse wire as a hanger?

If you google white hanging flower pot chain you get some metal results otherwise i can only find white plastic chain

Florist's wire is cheap and easily come by. It should do the job. Be wary of fuse wire, it is designed to melt if it gets too hot

Use battery powered tea lights instead of real ones?

Oooh, replies! [excited] I gave up on this thread after 24 hours, have only just spotted the replies.

I went to Hobbycraft and found some silver-metal chain in the ribbon department, £1.50/m. It did the job (i.e. held up the lantern without melting or going up in flames in the process) but it was too shiny - it caught the light and therefore distracted your gaze from the actual lantern itself.
I'll try to find something like that wire from Wilko's (it's ideal, but the advert says 'discontinued'Sad ).

I'm using real lights because I assume that they are more environmentally friendly than plastic lights and their batteries.
