Interchangeable circular needles - any recommendations?

Having broken another cable (thankfully I managed to transfer all my stitches safely to another needle before it detached completely!) I'm looking to buy some better quality circular needles.

I prefer bamboo or wood needles.

I am wondering about either the Addi Click bamboo ones or Knit Pro Symfonie. Does anyone have experience with either of these? Would you recommend them?

Thank you.

Knit Pro Symphonie, they're the dog's....

Lovely and smooth, not too slippy, nice join of needle to cable, not inclined to split yarns and very pretty. I'm slowly building up quite a collection of these.

Thank you :) they do sound good. I would probably go for the Rose ones.

I need to resist the temptation to buy a set with lots of sizes I won't use!

I have the Knit Pro Symfonie Rose ones, have had them about eight years and they are amazing.
Haven't had any problems with them at all, and easy to buy extra sizes. I bought the lovely box for around £70 I think and had to buy a couple of extra sizes but have used them so much.
Nice and smooth and the tips stay on.
I was only thinking the other day that it was a big purchase for me at the time, but one whatcha was well worth it.

PickAChew · 02/10/2018 17:57

The knit pro are lovely. I'm a fan of their straight needles, too.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/10/2018 21:14

That's the set I'm looking at Giraffe. I don't use all the sizes though. It's impressive that they've lasted so long.

To be honest I mostly just use 4mm!

Well, it's unanimous so far anyway. That's good as it saves me having to make a decision Grin

I LURVE my HiyaHiyas. I mostly use the non-sharp steel tips (nickel-free, for anyone who has a nickel allergy) but also like the bamboo tips. The joints are really smooth and the cables have just the right amount of flex.

You can buy a set or just individual needles. I have doubles of my favourite sizes because I prefer to use two circs to knit in the round.

Sorry, if you haven't already bought Knitpicks I may have presented you with the need to make a decision after all!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 09/10/2018 21:10

I hadn't even heard of those ThatLibraryMiss as I've clearly not researched very thoroughly Blush thanks, I will have a look. I haven't bought any yet as I didn't want to rush into a purchase.

I also have had a set of knitpros for years and use them for all my knitting. I have the steel tips for small size needles (3mm and under) as the wooden ones I had snapped very easily, but the rest are wooden tips. I love using them.
I bought a set of Denise needles and cables before I bought the knitpros and they are not that great - they feel very plasticy, the cables are quite stiff and they disconnect very easily when you are mid row.

ThatLibraryMiss · 10/10/2018 12:09

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo, IDK where you live but if you can get into Leeds or Wakefield I'll meet up with you and let you try my lovely HiyaHiyas.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 11/10/2018 12:38

That's such a kind offer, but sadly I'm nowhere near your (lovely) part of the country ThatLibraryMiss :)

I am encouraged by the positive feedback for the KnitPro Symphonies. I have a set and love them, but they tend to get slated on knitting forums. They are a good price and so pretty. I prefer wooden needles to metal.

SergeantPfeffer · 13/10/2018 22:03

I have a knitpro set and it’s great. As pp said, the small sizes are delicate and my kids have snapped two pairs by sitting on them Angry They’re fine if you haven’t got galumphing kids, though. I had a pair of the steel needles but the plating flaked off so I stick to the wooden needles. Buying a set is useful because it also comes with different cable lengths.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 13/10/2018 22:18

No galumphing kids here. Though I have broken a few needles myself Blush

When you say the small sizes, how small are we talking? I mostly use 4mm. Sometimes larger, but rarely smaller. I've just done a project in 4 ply and I'm in no hurry to do anything that fiddly again! :)

I have also heard stories about Symfonies snapping but, of the wooden needles, they’re the nicest. I tried the Royales (also Knitpro) once but the steel tip catches and the build quality was poor.

I have a set of Symfonies and also some Zing tips, which will fit on the Symfonie cables. I prefer a metal needle usually (my top choice is Addi fixed circs) but the Symfonies are perfectly pleasant.

CheekyFucker · 13/10/2018 23:19

I use 2.75 most of the time, and they are pretty small. I think if you treat them carefully they will be fine. KnitPro do a lifetime replacement too.

I have the DPNs and mini circulars as well. One mini snapped in the post and it was replaced no problem.

I have also had problems with metal needles flaking and getting rough at the end.

Twork · 29/10/2018 21:25

Knitpro symfonie here too.

Although, the sizes wear off v. quickly and it drives me mad. So make sure you invest in a needle gauge too.

I enjoy knitpro zing too but they can be a bit slippy.

Twork · 29/10/2018 21:27

You could buy a couple of needles and cables to see what you think. You don't need to invest in a full kit straight away.

storynanny · 31/10/2018 01:08

Ive got a set of karbonz which I really like using

mimiasovitch · 02/11/2018 20:54

Oh the karbonz are lovely, unless you're knitting in a dark yarn! I prefer the metal tips, but the symphonies are lovely too. I bought the Addi click set when it first came out, but I hardly use it.

FlaviaAlbia · 02/11/2018 21:03

I love my symfonie ones and the only niggle for me is like twork said, the size is printed on them and wears off very quickly. I have a couple of gauges knocking around my project bags now and I've got better at guessing but it's mildly annoying all the same.

DS managed to snap one of my 4mms, I'd set my knitting down for a minute and he sat on it Hmm

KatyN · 07/11/2018 07:50

I have the addi metals ones. I had a fe of their normal ones then came into a spare £100 so splashed out.
The bring me joy to knit with!

storynanny · 08/11/2018 16:13

Unfortunately the sizes wear off the karbonz too

storynanny · 08/11/2018 16:15

Overused probably in my case!
I never take them on board in case they are confiscated! Ive got my pro symphonie wooden ones in my bag today and they have just gone through security ok!

MrMeeseekscando · 08/11/2018 16:25

Check out ChiaoGoo needles!Grin
Absolutely Amazing!

FlaviaAlbia · 08/11/2018 16:35

I like the idea of the swiveling cable on one type of the chiagoos but I always end up putting spare money towards wool rather than a pair to try.
