Hiya, I'm in a very similar position - DD is 22.5lbs and nearly three feet. I have a mothercare sling which I'm still using in the inward facing position and it's fine for short journeys. But it's a bugger to put on if you don't have eight arms!

I've worn DD for three hours and I lost a pound in weight that day! My tip would be to take lots of water for both of you too - you get really hot hoofing them around.

I wouldn't make one yourself though - you would need something really hard like canvas to stand a chance of supporting that weight and not killing your back - mine has a lumbar belt too!

you could easily make a wraparound sling like this Bsically just a long rectangular bit of material.

I have the gauze one and can carry my 26lb 10 month old on my front no problem.

I used the huggababy until ds was over 2 stone

I would buy one so you get the strength and the padding in the shoulder, personally

Somebody here knows where to find a pattern...maybe Soupdragon?

It really isn't hard to tie on. I must admit to only mastering the front carry, but I haven't had it long and learnt the front carry so quickly I haven't bothered learning others. After the first couple of times I didn'r even need the instructions
