Toyota Super Jeans for quilting projects?

Some advice needed from the lovely MN Crafters out there. I'm taking a break from clearing up the sewing scraps. I need a new sewing machine as the quilt as you go project and I have killed my little Janome 2032 (ooh the irony!) I've tried all the basic remedies, delinted, oiled, new bobbin and needle. It's had five years of use and is a basic model, therefore I don't think it's worth sending it off to be repaired.

My budget is quite low and I was thinking of the next machine to be the Toyota Super Jeans model. Would a machine built for jeans may cope better with a quilting project?

Any advice welcome, thanks in advance

If it's quilting, why not get a straight stitch vintage machine? Metal gears, quiet stitch, does just one thing and does it better than a modern machine..?

Thanks DameF (great username) I was thinking of getting an old machine as they are built like tanks! I found out that my Janome will sew, but only quick and easy jobs and how long she will last is anyone's guess. I'm still shopping around...

I have a couple of old Singers - a featherweight I've had rewired, and a 99 that's handcrank so I can use it in the garden. They both make a gorgeously precise stitch and will probably outlast me Smile
