Advice needed - taking up trousers with curved hems

Hi, I would love some advice please, I have bought some new trousers which i love but they are three inches too long.

I am a reasonable novice sewer and have used machine to make curtains and cushions and shockingly wonky roman blinds Grin

The trouser hems are curved. (They pool beautifully tho they are only cotton). I have only ever done a turn up hem before but this won't work here.

The trousers are not really hemmed at the mo - they have stitching on the end to stop them fraying if that makes sense. I think it's overlocking? So no turn up, the stitches seem to 'seal' the fabric.

I think I have an overlocking foot on my sewing machine. Please be honest - is it easy to master and am I likely to get a decent edge in this way? Or has anyone got any better ideas as to how i can lose the length?

Thank you, grateful for any help!!

Can you post a picture? I suspect that the finish on the hem will have been achieved using an overlock machine using at least 3 threads (if it is what I am thinking) so probably the 'overlock' setting on your machine won't do the same thing.

It's possible that you could take them up by hand? just catching a thread as your stitch so that the sewing doesn't show on the right side...or pay to have them taken up which really shouldn't cost too much.

Take them to a seamstress! It costs about £5 to have trousers taken up although these might cost a little more as it sounds more imvolved.

I'm a passable sewist but mist of my trousers I get taken up professionally as it's just so much easier than me messimg about.
