How do you store knitting WIP?

As the title says - how do you store you WIP and accoutrements? I keep my current knitting projects next to the sofa but it looks so messy all the time - like yarn has vomited over the floor. I really want to streamline it and find a good storage solution but am struggling. One issue is that it is very visible in the room, so plastic drawers/crates would just look ugly and out of place.

I currently have a little table with a basket on top for patterns and sundries, and a number of toys underneath waiting to be sewn up, then I have a nice fabric basket next to it, which contains a yarn mountain, so my WIP blankets end up on the floor in front of it and add to the mess.

I'd ideally like a to find a neat solution, so things aren't quite so visible and dust-trappy.

Bags - I buy nice/decorative bags in charity shops to store stuff.

I also have a couple of bags currently Blush. It just looks so untidy. I move it all out the way for Christmas as the tree sits in the window where my craft stuff is and it looks so neat, but I don't want to move my craft stuff permanently, so I need an neater storage solution.

A large wicker laundry basket/stool with flat, hinged lid, doubles up as a table to put my coffee mug on.

Yarn on a chest of drawers in my bedroom.

Current wips each in a tote bag. They hang on a hook in a cupboard

I have some pretty stacking boxes (like mini suitcases) from The Works for stitch markers/ cotton etc

A Douwe Egberts bar with a crocheted sleeve holds my hooks and knitting needles

I have a lovely grey felt bag, that was originally for storing logs I think, it is self standing and pretty large.

Tote bags (Woolly Hugs, University ones etc) but I'm not organised enough to have one WIP per bag! They are piled up beside the sofa and my wool stash is in varius locations around the house.

I've got something like this trunk - m.ebay.co.uk/itm/lovely-sturdy-wooden-ikea-storagr-box/223024517444?hash=item33ed4c1144:g:y7AAAOSwh2FbKWOG&_trkparms=gclientid%3DwmBfrcHwHAwjIN01h0MANMV1Dv0wKsLnaBj--6ZeLJgFJo2lslwjS1jy2ot249Zc&_trksid=p2489528.m4335.l8656 - at the end of the sofa with the stash in, then a couple of project bags - one for socks and one for jumper sized stuff - out and visible. The larger project bag has a couple of pockets for pattern, notes etc and sections for needles and hooks, so I've got everything together.

Suitcase stack? or flat top trunk that can be used as a table. Homesense has nice decorated boxes if you don't have as much stuff as me. Magazine holder for patterns. Pringles tube for needles.

I have a small cupboard for my yarn. Then I have one of the small IKEA blue bags that I keep my "WIP but not right at this moments" in. It gets stuffed down the back of the sofa. Then I keep my current WIP in a fancy bag (fancier than the IKEA one anyway Grin) and carry it around with me.

FlaviaAlbia · 25/06/2018 16:25

Anything I haven't worked on in a while goes back in the cupboard.

BingTheButterflySlayer · 26/06/2018 10:17

Shoved in bags behind my comfy chair. Anything really pissing me off goes into the time out corner in a kallax drawer.

Bing Time out in the kallax for naughty WIP really made me smile.
