What is this sewing issue?

Total sewing beginner. Turned on the machine for the first time ever an hour ago.

I have followed all the set up instructions in the manual and am ready to go. But it isn’t sewing. The needle thread (blue) is coming out of the needle. (Bobbin thread is yellow) I’ve adjusted the tension up and down. Ive changed the needle for a (nother) new one. I’ve increased the stitch length. I’m giving loads of length on the threads before I put the needle through the fabric. I’m getting variations on what’s in these photos. Sometimes it’s doing no stitches at all. Every time the needle thread is coming out.

Sorry you've already said.

Is your thread properly between the tension plates? I've done similar where it's gone outside instead of between. I think it would really help if you could photograph your setup.

I tried to see when I had it set up but I couldn’t see if it was between the tension plates. Should it be easy to see? I’m hoping to get a chance tomorrow evening to go again at it and will take some photos then.

If you life it you should be able to slide on
It depends on the model though. Is it a new machine or old? I mainly use old ones so can't be sure how much has changed.

Lift*

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 21/06/2018 23:36

It’s a new one bought about 18 months ago but never used until now.

Hmmm, if it's new I may not be the best person to advise. First thing to check is always that the machine is threaded correctly.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 17/07/2018 22:52

Just to update everyone, I finally got back to trying my machine again this evening and I got it working!! I changed the thread to one of the threads that came with the machine and I put the tension back to 4 and it worked perfectly! I made a placemat from left over curtain fabric. Grin

Oh and I’ve found a beginners sewing workshop so have booked into it for this weekend.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Where are you based in NI? Im not far from Belfast of that's any help!

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 22/07/2018 12:25

Hi nurse! I’m downpatrick direction. But I’ve got the problem sorted and have been sewing lots of scraps of fabric to make sure it’s all working. Still have my sewing class to look forward too aswell. Thank you.

Ah no problem! There's a few classes around Belfast - I used to go to some by just Jude designs. Enjoy the machine!

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 22/07/2018 13:04

Ooh thanks flavia! I hadn’t heard of either of those!

FlaviaAlbia · 22/07/2018 13:42

There's a food festival on in Whitehead on the same day as Yarn Folk too, I'm going to be skint and stuffed afterwards Grin

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 22/07/2018 13:44

Grin well a least you can knit yourself some bigger pants to accommodate the increased belly!

FlaviaAlbia · 22/07/2018 13:45

Grin excellent point, sounds comfy! Grin

Definitely a bobbin issue. How are you starting off? When you begin the first few stitches you should do with the foot up using the knib on the side to move the needle rather than the foot pedal.
