Knit/Chrochet Christmas Gifts

I'm a relatively competent knitter & crocheter - no where near an expert, but can comfortably make stuff when i put my mind to it.
Christmas falls in summer in our part of the world but i'd much rather make gifts for Christmas gifts than just buy more things - wool tends to lend itself to winter rather than summer.

For 1YO - 5YO's, maybe even a little older:
As parents, would you prefer a well made jersey for DS or DD that you might need to stash away for a few months until its cooler, or a plastic toy that DS or DD can play with immediately?

I remember the jersey's that my Gma knitted me were my favorites, I've even kept them for 'one day'!

I live in Australia so know what you mean....but I wouldn't want a well made jersey which they couldn't wear unless it was a good few sizes too large as mine tend to grow in odd spurts making it hard to predict size the following year.

What about nice little knitted or crocheted toys? I love and both my DD"s love crochet animals and things like that.

One DD also has a wonderful crochet bag she loves.

I would definitely prefer to receive knitted jumpers than toys. I wouldn't mind having to put them away until they fit / the temperature is right.

I think a nice knitted jumper a couple of sizes too large would be a treat.

My Granny used to knit us a jumper each for Christmas and they were so beautiful that they never got thrown away, even when far too small.

I'd love to be organised enough to do something like this, but can never quite manage it.

Thankyou, I’ll make sure I go a size or two larger.
I normally do Christmas shopping/making slowly through each year as I see things for people, I agree Melanippe, it can be so hard to plan but I’ve found it less stressful in the long run.
We only do gifts for kids which is good, and if I’m making I make something similar for all of them so they can share/swap colours.
I need to start extra early, it’ll be 5 jerseys this year!
