Help with rib stitch please!

I have been doing some small knitting projects and am currently doing a jumper (with an easy pattern!) And at the cuffs I am required to do rib stitch. As per the pattern I do k2, p2 (starting and ending with the knit 2) then repeat but when I did this it came out all strange! So it had the two "right side" v stitches then on the next row on top were two "wrong side" wavy stitches?! How did I get this wrong?

I solved it by doing k2, p2 to the end then on the next row doing p2, k2 but this isn't right so I'm just wondering what I am doing wrong?

What you did was right. If your last two stitches on your first row were knit 2 then the first 2 on the next row must be purl to get the rib right. What did it say in the pattern?

This is what I thought but everywhere I look online it says that the pattern is k1,p1 then repeat the same on the next row?
My pattern says:
"Work 2 x 2 ribbing (beginning and ending each row with k2)" so to me feels the same as what I keep reading online and I got very confused!
I'm only a beginner with knitting but I've learned so many new skills with knitting this jumper but this one has baffled me as it just didn't work until I went opposite.

It depends on the number of stitches
Say you had 12 stitches you would end the row on purl 2 then the next row would start with a knit 2. If you had 14 stitches the row would end in knit 2 then the next row you would have to start with purl.
Hope it helps
