So my 10 year old DS is bored lately. He has aspergers and for a long time was computer obsessed so got into coding etc but recently he has started saying he wants other things to do at home. I came up with the idea of a sort of odd crafting table at the end of our lounge as we have a big empty space there. The thought was to have lots of stuff to fiddle with so instead of just glue and paint and card we could have tools and things to take apart and bits of wood with nails to bang into them etc etc. DS loves this sort of thing and we figured if we have enough stuff it could be quite creative. I googled it and on pinterest these are called tinker tables although ours would be a combination of that and crafts. So I need to go and collect/buy some stuff and need inspiration please! We have built lots of storage into the room for this so we have room for loads of stuff. There is also a big extendable table and big rug for protection!

My list so far is:-

Corks
Nails
Pieces of wood
Buttons
Screw and nuts
Tools
Things to take apart – phones, pcs
Goggles
Fabric (I have a sewing machine they can use too)
Glue
Paint
Paintbrushes
Card
Paper
Sequins
Pens and pencils
Junk (cardboard boxes, loo rolls, yogurt pots etc)

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Yarn, string etc
A glue gun

A plate or saucer with several strong magnets glued underneath - this will keep screws etc in one place and less susceptible to spilling! (It’s also useful for sewing actually to keep pins in place - I have one to drop the pins into when I remove them during sewing)

Pipe cleaners, pom poms, craft feathers and googly eyes!

3D pen. They have really come down in price and are great fun.

Superclay (dries in the air) and/or Fimo (dried in the oven).

Check out Hobbycraft sales bins. They put odds and ends of everything in there for 10p upwards when they have a clear out.

A vice to hold stuff if you think he will be OK with one?

Mini G clamps might be good for holding things too.

beads, polymer clay, Xyron mini sticker maker? (£8 on amazon and actually very good) copydex glue is a good alternative to a glue gun it's smelly though.
