Im looking to make a blanket for 2yo duvet refusing DS, using the granny stitch.

How many should i chain to get a width of 70cm? Or should i just get the tape measure out?!

its going to be a lot of yarn isnt it?!

What thickness of yarn, what size hook?

HelloCanYouHearMe · 24/10/2017 19:21

That would help wouldnt it??! Grin

Ive got Stylecraft Special DK yarn. Hook wise, I have a 5.5 and a 4, not too sure which one to go for just yet....

Those are hook sizes in mm I assume.

I did a blanket recently with a 4mm hook - chained 121 and it came out at 79cm wide.

yes, mm.... im not doing very well tonight, am i?

i will go for 121 and see how we get on! Thank you for taking the time to reply Flowers

For a DK, a 4 or 4.5 mm hook (generally, you use the same size hook as knitting needles, and that should be given on the band of the yarn).

120 chains stitches sounds about right, but chain them and then measure the chain.

Yes, although the width will grow after a few rows have been done, in my experience - the chain is very springy. So you could either have a go at 120/121 (whatever the exact number is for your pattern) and measure after a few rows, or do a much shorter piece, measure after a few rows and then accept you'll have to start again. May depend how fast a crocheter you are!

Or you change the stitch and do corner to corner, easier to judge the size. You can still make it a rectangle.
