Beginner Knitter- What after scarves?

SallyLockhartsDog · 19/10/2017 21:29

Have made 5/6 scarves now ...felt a bit bored so bought a striped shawl pattern & mohair yarn..have just put it it away after almost crying in frustration. It is too much of a leap from basic scarf! (Never done stripes or k1 in to next st Confused and mohair is a nightmare)

What would you suggest as a sensible next project? Smile

Oh, I just remembered, I think tin can knits do a mini Christmas jumper bunting. It's quite fun and also small so you don't feel bad packing it in if you're not getting on with the pattern Smile

That looks fab barna & wooly.

I will go back to the wool shop next week & buy some wool for that shawl! I reckon I need to start a stash too!!

Sally you build a stash Grin

You find some lovely wool and buy it. Then you look for a pattern. But it needs more wool than you have. Or it’s not the right weight. So you buy more wool. Meanwhile some bad, bad kitten Wink introduces you to [[http://www.ravelry.com/]] so you develop a library of patterns that you need yet more wool (and needles) for.

Before you know it, you could insulate your whole house in hand dyed merino, silk, yak blend single ply fingering weight and have enough patterns accumulated to keep you busy until 2210 Smile

Hello. I am a an inexperienced knitter but would love to knit a throw. Does anyone know of a quick and easy on, please? Or could I knit squares and join them.?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 20/10/2017 21:51

Squares for a patchwork cushion cover or blanket are great for this. Once you're comfortable with knitting and purling there are loads of interesting patterns using just those stitches (eg here), and when you want to try patterns with cables/yarn overs/multiple colours etc. a single square isn't too daunting.

"to keep you busy until 2210"

I have nightmares that I'll die before I've had the chance to knit, loom knit or crochet everything I want to. and I haven't even got round to trying out the tatting or Tunisian crochet gear I've bought yet Sad

Finally cast on my tin can knits triangular shawl today. I have put it off because the casting on looked too difficult - but the instructions on the website were fantastic and now I feel a bit foolish for putting it off! I will update again once it's complete Grin thanks again for all the advice!
