Sewing and bobbin confusion

Hello!

I am planning on buying a sewing machine as I want a new hobby.

I am a beginner but have a creative mind and have been researching and reading a lot online over the last few weeks.

I am going to get the Janome 525s (unless anyone here tells me it’s the worst choice ever)

I am confused about bobbins and whether you can get pre wound ones for this machine? I can’t seem to find any answers online.

I want it to all be as easy as possible, hence thinking pre wound bobbins will be better.

Thank you, I am grateful for any help.

I wouldn't bother with pre wound bobbins, the process of filling one with the machine is so quick and easy, it takes me less than 30 seconds to wind a new bobbin using the machine, I bought loads because they're cheap and one of those things its useful having spares of, and I got a little bobbin case for a couple of pounds and just keep them in there.

I would imagine that the pre wound bobbin are for the high end embroidery machines.

Winding a bobbin is really easy.

Whatever machine you choose I would recomend trying it out in a good shop first, generally if you buy from a good shop you should leave with enough information to at least get started.

if you can get to grips with using a sewing machine generally you can wind a bobbin. Promise.

its probably easier than actually threading the sewing machine itself.

I'm a fairly new sewer and agree that winding a bobbin is super easy and quick.

You'll get an instruction manual with your sewing machine...mine was Janome and very easy to follow with absolutely zero experience of sewing. Takes about 30 seconds to do it.

Winding bobbins is one of the most fun parts of sewing! You also have exact matched thread.

Winding bobbins is easy but sometimes Aldi and Lidl have boxes of pre wound ones with matching spools. So handy if it's a small repair

This 'thread' reminds me of a nursery rhyme. Smile We use Janomes with secondary school students, pretty bomb proof in ME.

I have a janome.

Winding bobbins is a doddle. I sometimes call my 8 year old DD to press the pedal once I've threaded them as she loves using the machine and winding the bobbins is a job she loves.

You'll be fine!! Always wind them to full capacity and have plenty of spare empties - then you'll get several uses out of each one.

As a pp mentioned, the pre-wound bobbins are for embroidery machines as you often use different thread in the bobbin. I use them for my embroidery machine but for a normal sewing machine just wind them in the machine as you need the same thread top and bottom. It's a doddle and one of the things I love doing

Thank you everyone. I will take your advice and be ‘winding my bobbin up’ Grin
