Tapestry cushion advice please

Hello, I have a few questions about making a tapestry cushion (I have done tapestry from a kit and made dining chair seat covers about 30 years ago with my Mum, but nothing "freestyle" before).

  1. Can anyone advise where is the best place to buy canvas (10 holes per inch is what I think I need) and tapestry wool from please? I am happy to go online or to a shop.
  2. How do I calculate roughly the amount of wool I will need? The design is for a 40cm square cushion with 3 colours (red, white and blue).
  3. I have the design on a piece of A3 paper, to size - how do I transfer that to the canvas?
Thank you.

It's years since I've done tapestry but I'll give you my tuppence worth (if only to bump this for you Wink ).

  1. I think DMC and Anchor are the best known wools so anywhere you see online that sells them, whichever website you like the look of most. I would imagine places like Hobbycraft and John Lewis (do they still sell crafty stuff?) might have what you're after if you'd rather see what you're buying in the flesh.
  1. I would do a small test piece on a scrap bit of canvas to work out what you'll need. Cut a set length of wool and see how far it gets you, bearing in mind you might need extra for cutting across bits at the back. I'm sure there's a much better way of doing it but if there's a hard way to do something that's what I'll try first Blush
  1. I would do it from the chart but I'm assuming your A3 paper is just plain? I used to have small squared acetate that sits over the picture to turn it into a chart but I gave it away as I never do that kind of thing anymore or else you could have had it. Ah, you can print paper out, how cool is that Grin . That's if you can be bothered drawing it all out again. Or you could have it copied onto the squared paper, that would be quicker.

Thank you -I will have a go! I didn't know you could get that paper on line -it will be really useful to use that.
