Sewing machine for 8yr dd

DD is totally into sewing. She helps herself to my sewing box and loves to make clothes for her dolls (sticking pieces of fabric together with glue).

DD's 8th birthday is coming up. Should I get her a batch of fabrics swatches and a sewing box or a sewing machine?

If sewing machine, which one would be suitable?

Thank you.

Thank you for clarifying BarchesterFlowers I very much like the look of the 221.

Loving the sewing symbols banana and the vintage Singer love!

You have chosen the one that will cost you more than a modern machine google!!! Do get the electrics tested if you buy one with a motor.

Not sure where you live but both Helen Howes and my sewing machine man in Harrogate can sort out testing.

"You have chosen the one that will cost you more than a modern machine google!!! Do get the electrics tested if you buy one with a motor." Blush Some of these are advertised as pat tested and fully serviced. Do you reckon i should have it pat tested after buying it just to be on the safe said?

I learned with an old Singer hand-crank too.

She'll be ok with a basic electric Singer or Brother. Don't bother with a mini or child's machine.
DGS9 easily managed to sew a few seams on his Celt costume. He's not usually in any way creative or dexterous!
