Which Bamboo Knitting Needle Set? Beginner :-)

Hi everyone

I've started getting into knitting after a couple of years crocheting. I'm keen to purchase a decent Bamboo knitting needle set in a range of sizes, so I'm good to go as and when I need to alter needle size for gauge.

I'm very spoilt with my crochet hooks, I outlaid on a Clover Amour set for £35, and will last me years.

I've had a look around online, and not really committed enough to spend £60 on Knitpro Symphonie set just yet. As I progress, I may move to circulars in the longer term, but am enjoying working with bamboo for now.

I spotted this John Lewis set in the sale, and thought this would be a good starter set:

Or there is this 32 piece set on Amazon, but the price seems too good to be true!

Does anyone have either of these sets or can recommend an alternative? A bit put off just ordering a random set off eBay - bit of a reviews freak!

Thanks!

I don't have either but I would get the Ebay ones if I was you - there are lots of reviews at the bottom Grin

And if they aren't great, well at least you haven't paid too much

But the John Lewis case is really nice, and they are at a discount atm so... Can you tell I'm rubbish at decisions?

I've got similar to the £4.99 set and they are pretty good. Can't think of any that have snagged or snapped. My symphonies have roughened with use a bit.

John Lewis ones probably from same factory! But not too pricey, you're right.

I have the second set, use them occasionally bit not wowed by them, they are quite long. I use Knit Pro needles which are lovely, they have bamboo ones as well

Both look fine - I think you're paying for the case really for the John Lewis one. Having said that, what do you mostly knit? I got rid of all my straight needles as just do everything on circulars now, find them much easier to use.

I buy bamboo sets direct from China, crochet, double ended, circlular needles and an Arcylic set of Tunisian crochet hooks. I am happy with all of them. Aliexpress, Wish, Ebay, international Amazon, the long wait is the pay off for cheap prices as far as I can tell. I bought a set of hooks from my local shop, unuseable, but it not a good shop anyway.

As a further note to my original post, I saw these in store and I didn't think they looked very nice. Shiny and cheap looking. I also decided I was unlikely to need some of the smaller needles.

Think I'll buy needles individually for now as I'm only trialling a couple of projects, but longer term may get circular interchangeable anyway.

The last one off set I bought were Milward from my LYS on offer and they're great!

Have you tried knitting with metal needles? Addi turbo circulars are beautiful, and the stitches slip along so easily. Bamboo can be a bit 'grabby', and are more easily snapped. I've got the symphonie needles, as well as the knit pick metal interchangeables, they are fine, but I much prefer the addi turbo.

Knitpro symfonie are beautiful and great quality, cheap bamboo needles can be very blunt and the wood starts to splinter after a few uses.

I use the symfonie interchangeable and love them, use them for everything except when DPNs are easier for small number of stitches when knitting in the round.
