I've always wanted to crochet. But it just seems so complicated. Bought the hooks but don't have the yarn Blush Am a complete novice. Anyway, YouTube videos that you can recommend to help me get started?

i learnt by watchingbella coco on you tube, crochet crowd are good but use american terminology

Poundworld do decent yarn for learning cheap and it washes well if you want to keep what you make.
I second Bella coco on youtube. She's brilliant for slowly explaining the steps.

This is a very easy blanket, so easy even I was able to make it!

Poundland/poundworld for yarn (but stay away from anything with sparkles on it as a start)

Youtube, even if they're not a "big" name in crochet, is always a help for visualising stitches

Books either bought new or second hand on ebay, or even in a library

start with a blanket, the longer it is, the better you get at counting stitches and getting used to how to do the stitches, even if you never finish the blanket

I learned from Crochet for Dummies. The projects aren't that great, but all the basics are mega easy, and v clear, with no stages missed out, or assume knowledge.

definitely agree with the Bella Coco videos. You can stop and start, she explains and shows nice and clearly .

Bella Coco on YouTube is brilliant! She explains things very clearly and even tells you when to pause the video so that you can keep up with her. She's English too so uses the terminology that we use here, which you'll find in U.K. crochet books - Americans use a different terminology for their stitches.

I only started crocheting earlier this year and love it, persevere as it looks quite daunting at first but it really isn't difficult!

A good book to use once you have the basics mastered is 200 Crochet Blocks by Jan Eaton.

Bells coco is brilliant! You can even put subtitles on (which I do when I'm learning a new pattern for granny squares and MrBC is watching the telly)

Start off with granny squares rather than a blanket or large item. I'm a complete beginner and I've learnt 3 types so far. Had a book and was crap. I get my wool from Amazon (mixed colours at 25g in a bag of 20) it's cheap but i don't want to move onto NAICE wool until I'm better! It's good to practice on. I'm going to make a blanket once I've got enough squares and then practice a scarf for my bestie. Then I will upgrade to better yarn.

It's so much fun and very addictive.

I would recommend Esther of Itsallinanutshell on YouTube too, she has a lovely soothing voice. I learned from her videos 😊

You can learn to do all the stitches making Granny squares without too much pressure. Once you start to crochet in rows, you'll feel the effects if you don't have consistent stitches.

I watched helpfullhoney/hopefullhoney (cant remember which one it is) on YouTube and just kept practising with an 8mm hook... it took me months to get it, but ive almost finished my first granny square blanket!
