can I use pva glue to write on the fabric before bleaching or dyeing?

My gut feeling is that it wouldn't work. Wouldn't the dye just soak through the fabric anyway?

Can you write with bleach afterwards instead?

thanks

having trawled the net a bit, it seems that it's possible with 'blue gel' pva glue (whatever that is).
but anyway not possible to do quickly as a day project with dc this summer.

I would worry getting the glue out again without washing out the colours.

Would masking fluid do? No idea how it would work with fabric/dye/washing but might be worth looking at.

Or: instructions for glue-resist dyeing.

Says to use Elmer's washable school glue.

I remember attempting to make a batik effect using melted wax and cold water dye, but appreciate if the children are young you might not want to use molten wax. I did a quick Google of "how to batik fabric home" showed that there are now a load of different products that can be used to make dye resistant designs.

we used clear pva glue and the results were ok.
the glue is a bugger to get out properly. as we dyed bags, it doesn't matter too much though.

There's a method called salt resist as well although I've never tried it.

That looks great. I'm going to try it next.
