What is this crochet pattern asking exactly??

I'm not a novice crocheter but am not used to seeing a crochet pattern written out in this particular way so am a bit confused. (It's crocheting in continuous rounds)

I'm more used to it being written in this format:
1dc in first st, 2dc in next st; repeat from to end (18st)

(Sorry I had to double star otherwise it was just making the text bold!)

Can anyone please help me see exactly what I'm supposed to be doing so I can go and translate each row?

The pattern has written out the increases as if it's a stitch.

So for the first one, you will increase in every other stitch. E.g. sc, 2 sc in next st 3 times.

It's exactly the same idea as you have written in your post.

I think Inc stands for increase, so 2 dc in the same space, that would give you the number of stitches indicated. It is quite badly written, assume 1st row is 6 dc in magic loop.

Is it a toy head, I'm thinking it is 6 inc then 3 stitches so you will get a wonky round thing like a dog head. Much more curve on one side.

I read it the same as Pestil, so for the first round I would have done:

[2sc in next st] x 3, 3sc (9st)

If you do it like Mystery suggested, I can't suss out how row 8 would work?
