Do you varnish your pieces so they have the wet look or leave them dry and frosted looking (both look lovely but different)

River findings is very clever! You use jewellery findings to make the jewellery and the glass is found too.

SoupDragon · 09/06/2017 10:55

Someone got the findings reference! Although that was secondary to the glass being found I must admit :)

I was googling mudlarking along the Thames - do you really need a permit?? Or is that only if you're going to dig for stuff?

LaurieFairyCake · 09/06/2017 11:56

LOVE River Findings. Smile Thank you

I think you only need a permit for digging/detecting. But I'm not 100% sure.

A brief Google doesn't pull up anyone else using that name for a business; jewllery or otherwise. I think its a fab name so I would go for it. I love sea glass, but have never found any sad face so would be very interested in buying some from you (assuming price and style is right for me). Good luck with you new venture!

SoupDragon · 09/06/2017 12:31

Yes, the permit info said it allowed you to dig up to 7cm or something but wasn't clear if you didn't need one if you weren't digging.

I use sea glass in my work - not jewellery though - and use it as it is. If you are wanting it to shine then it probably needs tumbling to a polished finish which would be permanent, rather than varnishing as I'm not sure how long the varnish would remain on the glass before it begins to peel off.

There is probably someone with better knowledge of this somewhere.

I've made the first four rings on sterling silver. Turned out quite delicate and pretty. I'm working on a pendant with sea glass, another ring with a tiny medieval (!) silver coin on it, and another pendant with a piece of clay pipe on it.

It's very soothing Grin

I've tried to upload an image but unfortunately I've used all six photos for today

I've finished the first lot of pendants and rings. I focused on things that were vaguely heart shaped for pendants and some ovals for rings.

I need to buy more silver, more pendant findings now (can't afford any more yet).

You have been busy! I love the blue ring, third row down on the right hand side. Out of curiosity, how much would you you charge for that one? What size is it?

SasBel · 13/06/2017 23:07

Beautiful! I also like the blue ring that little has her eye on! Def look at selling on etsy.

SoupDragon · 14/06/2017 07:22

They're lovely :)

LaurieFairyCake · 14/06/2017 07:28

Oh to wake up to this! Thanks so much SmileFlowers

I'm attempting to open an Etsy shop but I'm falling at the first hurdle - I need a shop name that's 20 characters or less

I'm trying to call it:
Greenwich River Findings or London River Findings

I want people to know I'm in London. When I buy on Etsy I filter by handmade and UK only (to support local craftspeople and avoid customs after I got stung buying a tea towel from the US)

Any ideas ?

I could just go with London Findings but I really want the river in there

LaurieFairyCake · 14/06/2017 07:37

Ok how about SE10 River Findings?

al88 · 14/06/2017 07:39

Your jewellery is beautiful 😀
I collect sea glass too but haven't found anything as pretty as some of your finds, just a few bits with writing on from Southwold.
Good luck with your business Smile

LaurieFairyCake · 14/06/2017 07:41

Well that's proper annoying

You're not allowed spaces - that so weird. Who wants a grammatically incorrect shop name ?!?

So I can have SE10RiverFindings or LondonRiverFindings as they're 20 characters with no spaces or less.

SoupDragon · 14/06/2017 07:48

I'd go for London rather than SE10. I'd be tempted to put the London at the end though but I don't know why! It just seems right. Like there's a comma after Findings.

SoupDragon · 14/06/2017 07:48

I have to say that I've never noticed the shop names have no spaces though.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/06/2017 07:49

There's so much in London al. I've been using a garden sieve all along the river side. Stuff I can't identify like bits of calcified net and iron nails 6 inches long (I'm keeping them and using them in a picture)

On Saturday I found a tiny silver coin from 1715. I'm still cleaning it but it would be so sweet in a tiny ring

So : RiverFindingsLondon?

It's good Soup, I will call it that in your honour Grin

SoupDragon · 14/06/2017 07:56

LOL. I don't know why it sounds more "right" but it just does.

SoupDragon · 14/06/2017 07:56

I want to go sieving along the Thames.!

expatinscotland · 14/06/2017 07:58

I leave it frosted and collect it all from beaches, no tumbling.

HysterectomyHysteria · 14/06/2017 08:09

What about ThamesRefound? Thamesfindings?
ThamesRevealed?

LaurieFairyCake · 14/06/2017 08:12

It's UP!!!

Oh this is so fun! But I've now got 45 minutes to get read for work so I won't be able to do any more today.

I had a look into a tumbler (for smoothing) but they're £400, way out my budget for now.

I love the other names too Smile
