Knitting: can you suggest something gorgeous (but easy) to make?

Have never posted here before - I have recently relearnt how to knit and managed a scarf (v big wool and v big needles). Now I want to make something lovely but don't know where to start -apart from drooling over beautiful wool (not literally). Maybe for me, maybe for dd, maybe for house - can anyone suggest what's a good next project after a scarf? (my ultimate aim is to make something that looks like it comes from the Brora catalgoue but I htink that's a long way off) Thanks

A hat? Or mittens? Then you can practice increasing/decreasing and sewing up. Beanies are cute. Or maybe a pillowcase in a really lovely wool - you will have to get your tension right to make sure it fits though. Another scarf with colour changes? If you get two skeins of Noro and then alternate rows in a rib pattern it makes a really interesting scarf (if somewhat pricey).

I've just started doing felting. Basically, you knit something in 100% wool and then shrink it in the washing machine.

I've made beautiful bags and hats. They start off looking like a saggy old sack, and miraculously turn into something wonderful.

The good thing is that your knitting doesn't need to be perfect, because any baggy stitches just get felted.

There's a lovely Rowan book of felting. I've just finished a gorgeous knitting needle case out of it for a friend's birthday.

A nice cushion, or squares for a throw (check Debbie Abrahams on Amazon for some ideas on blanket-making).
I have really perfected my casting on, fancy stitch and even tension techniques through helping to make squares for blankets.
But that felting book sounds nice littlefish...

Littlefish I'm drooling at that book but given I have just had to restart my pink square for maude...think I may have to work my way up slowly to anything more compolex

It's a really lovely book fmv. The patterns really aren't complicated at all. In fact, I think they're mostly just stocking stitch because cables etc. wouldn't show up by the time you've felted them.

Thanks for the reminder re. Maude's square - I must get some yarn at the weekend.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I like the sound of the felting book - might have to go and do more drooling.

At the risk of boring everyone else witless, have you had a browse through Knitty ? All the patterns are archived here , and the listing gives you an idea of difficulty. All free, best of all

Oooooh Thanks Tamum. That's a fantastic resource! There's a couple of things I've spotted that I want to knit (when I've finished the 6 things I've got on the go at the moment!!)
