can anyone tell me how to set hama beads? do you iron them?

Cover them with greaseproof paper and iron on a medium setting, then peel off when cool, turn over and iron the other side (through the paper again).

Hope this helps!

I hate hama beads - ooh the pressure! Your little darlings have spend hours putting the little beads on the board and then you have to carry it to the iron without dropping it and then iron it really firmly but not TOO firmly, so you don't melt the peg board as well and then pull the paper off and hope that it all sticks! PRESSURE!!!

DimpledThighs · 01/03/2007 10:23

I only iron one side and have put up with floods of tears when I have dropped them before ironing.

When you iron they sort of melt and squash together and stick - if you iron a lot it blends and if not they still look seperate - depends what 'look' you are after.

Press hard.

princesscc · 01/03/2007 10:29

SEE - pressure! I wouldn't mind, but once my dd has done them, she throws them in her bedroom and the darn things get broken anyway!

princesscc · 01/03/2007 10:30

On the up side tho, I did make some rather cute xmas decs with them a few years ago and they do look very nice if I say so myself

OrlandoTheMarmaladeCat · 01/03/2007 16:58

Our favourite trick is leaving a long gap between the DC finishing them, and me ironing them (not difficult as I HATE ironing with a vengeance ).

We then see how many of the delicately balanced boards we can tip up/accidentally knock/leave out for a cat to sit on etc before I get really cross and pour the whole lot back in the box to start again.....

Re the ironing both sides, I just assumed that they might be tougher and longer-lasting if they were done on both sides. As it is, the kids just like peeling off the beads again - lovely, my kids

Mine always seems to break when i peel it off the frame! Wonder what I am doing wrong

snowwonder · 01/03/2007 17:03

ohhh we made lovely easter egg ones and bunnies last year!!!!

we only iron one side

snowwonder · 01/03/2007 17:04

saltire maybe need to let them melt into each other abit more and let them cool before taking off paper- not that i am an expert

TrinityRhino · 01/03/2007 21:07

Oh yes - I have mended many a broken Hama bead rabbit !!! Just need to remelt it back together ! Remember to use some paper - between iron and beads !! And don't over melt it !!!

dab a bit then check !

SlightlyMadScientist · 01/03/2007 21:12

I think you can re-iron it to fuse the 2 broken pieces together. This is what a friend talks about. I don't know if you would have to put it back on the peg board to do that tho?!?!?

Have re-ironed them, yes. As long as you are careful (and patient) they don't need to be put back on the board beforehand.

scatterbrain · 01/03/2007 21:15

Ideally you put it back on the peg board - but I'm guessing that you don't have the board if she made it at nursery.

You can do it without - but it is harder !
