What is this fabric called pleased?

I am looking for a sort of cotton fabric, I presume it must have a name! It's very thin, but hangs quite heavily, and is extremely soft, almost has a slightly brushed feel but nowhere near as think as brushed cotton. It almost feels like it's been washed a lot, even when it's new.
A friend bought me a kaftan made from it, from Somalia, and I found it sooo comfy. I don't remember seeing it on sale very often, except once in local fabric shop and I passed by it at the time as was looking for something else. I'm now hunting it down, but a name would help!

A lightweight flannel? Like casual shirts?

Cheesecloth, perhaps?

notmenow I did wonder if it was still classed as flannel, as it has a slightly brushed feel. I've never seen shirts made from it though, it's thinner and smoother than that. I might google very thin flannel...
vicarlady no, not cheesecloth, thought I do love cheesecloth.

I don't think it can be flannel, it always seems to be referred to as warm and cosy, and the one I have is what you would want to wear on a hot day to stay cool.

A bit like chambray?

Challis - A lightweight, soft plain weave fabric with a slightly brushed surface. The fabric is often printed, usually in a floral pattern. Challis is most often seen in fabrics made of cotton, wool, or rayon.

Linen goes very soft and slightly plush to the touch when it's been washed a lot. It gets better the more it's washed.

Cotton challis, seems a likely contender.

I've had rayon challis that I bought in India and it was so so soft and lovely for hot weather. It did feel slightly brushed.

Double gauze? If it is this, you should be able to pull the two layers apart ever so slightly between your fingers.....

I'm not sure with the cotton challis from the that photo, it seems to lack that slightly brushed quality.

Definitely not linen, that's one of my favourite all time fabrics (make it into anything and it looks great).

Years ago I had brushed silk. Very odd stuff

A bit thinner and softer than chambray.

I think brushed silk made an appearance in the 90's desolate, I had a dress, it was weird!

Calico too crisp

There are also a lot of viyella type fabrics that are slightly brushed twills. Started off as wool cotton mix but there have been loads of spin offs.
I've had some brushed silk as well, interesting stuff, different to the sandblasted/washed stuff.
