Is anyone into photography?

Got a surprise DSLR from the in laws this year :) I've been playing around with a point and shoot for a while but I'd really like to learn to use this better. Wondered if anyone was interested in sharing photos and supporting each other? I used to have a film SLR as a teenager but it's been so long I can't remember what I'm doing with it!

Just from our window so I find tripod not necessary, especially when no foreground is visible.

I've found my People. I have only recently started teaching myself photography and I love it. I have no idea what I am doing and just winging it but that is the best way I think, just going out and taking photos of the same subject but trying it with different settings each time. I love to see other people's work and see different ideas Smile

That's a pretty decent firework! I'm not a fan of loud noises sonadmittedly I don't seek fireworks out Blush
I do love long exposure though, especially waterfalls Smile

Ooh I'd like to join this thread! I've always loved taking photos, but never been very good! My husband bought me a beautiful DSLR a couple of Christmases ago and I'm ashamed to say I've barely used it except for snapshots of the children! But my New Years resolution is to get back into it and to try to teach myself how to take some better photographs!

I've been editing Grin

Shall we do a weekly photo challenge then? Then we have a reason for getting out with our cameras Smile

Ooh Bertie I like the one with the tree in the bottom of the frame! Smile

BertieBotts · 01/01/2017 14:55

Oh Confused it did?

In Germany you don't need to seek fireworks out... they let them off steadily from about 10pm to 2am, wherever you happen to be!

Mine is at least 6 years old now but is canon 450D. It's great, I bought myself a 30mm lens for a wedding present which gets the lovely blur/bokeh from a short depth of field. I rarely use any other lens now but there's no zoom on a fixed lens so not great for everything but much better pics imo

cakesandphotos · 02/01/2017 11:02

Fixed lenses are meant to be really good. I would love the nifty fifty. I might drop some solid hints to DH for my birthday next month…
Is it a f/1.8?

HeCantBeSerious · 02/01/2017 11:05

Yep. I did a "get out of auto mode" course that transformed my photography.

The weather has been pretty uninspiring photo wise recently. We had some snow last night but it was pitch black and it's gone now. We need some proper snow, I love shooting with falling snow!

Cakes I love that! We have snow here. It's gone a little today which probably means I should brave the cold and go to the shop while I have the chance.

This is one of my long exposures from the other night. 2 mins with a tripod. No editing apart from a bit of cropping.

It's my birthday next week and DH has bought me a DSLR (not allowed to open it til then though boo hooo!)

Have never had a proper camera so I'd love all the tips
