Etsy - declaring (minimal) income and tax credits

Hey I've been selling on etsy for 2 years. I don't sell much - I think I've had just under 60 sales in this time. But my shop has been fairly neglected and I've not spent much time on it.

I've never declared the income or set my self up as self employed as its so small. Nor have I kept accounts or records of expenses for materials etc.

If I wanted to start putting more effort in, could I declare working hours for tax credit purposes even if profit will be small? And if I declare myself self employed, will I get in trouble for not declaring the shop two years ago?

If I had kept accounts, I probably would have barely made a profit but I can't show my expenses now.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
