Deciphering a Crochet Pattern

Can someone please help to decipher the last part of these instructions.

They say:-
ROW 1 ::
1 tr into 4th chain from hook
"1tr into each of next 4 chs, tr2tog twice, tr into each of next 4 chs, (2tr into next ch) twice, 1tr into each of next 4 chs, tr2tog twice, 1 tr into each of next 4 chs
Repeat between ** ending last rep with 2 tr into last chain, turn."

My question is - for the last few stitches do I repeat everything between the asterixes and then do 2tr into the same stitch (so the last 5 stitches are a tr2tog, 4tr into 4 chains THEN 2trs into a new stitch) OR is it tr2tog, 3tr into 3 chains and then 2trs into the last stitch??

Hope this makes sense to you.
Sadly I've miscounted my foundation chain so I have several foundation stitches too much but I can sew them into the completed blanket when done.

Hmmm, trying to work it out.

Is it a ripple pattern?

Does the pattern tell you how many chains/stitches per repeat?

I think it is your first option.

Does the second row give you any clues?

DameMargaretofChalfont · 11/12/2016 20:28

Yes it's a ripple - my first ever attempt

Here are the first few rows:-
ROW 1 ::
1 tr into 4th chain from hook
1tr into each of next 4 chs, tr2tog twice, tr into each of next 4 chs, (2tr into next ch) twice, 1tr into each of next 4 chs, tr2tog twice, 1 tr into each of next 4 chs

Repeat between ** ending last rep with 2 tr into last chain, turn.

:: ROW 2 ::
ch3, 1 tr into same stitch, 1tr into each of next 4 chs, tr2tog twice, 1 tr into each of next 4 chs, (2tr into next ch) twice, 1tr into each of next 4 chs, tr2tog twice, 1 tr into each of next 4 chs

Repeat between ** ending last rep with 2 tr into the top chain of the chain-3 from previous row.

:: ROW 3 ::
Change to a new colour and repeat Row 2.

:: ROW 4 ::
continue with the same colour as Row 3, repeating the ripple pattern as for Row 2.

I don't normally follow patterns - I'm a big fan of online tutorials so this has bamboozled me!!!
I've obviously made things worse by creating a foundation chain of 330 stitches - I think I should have done one in a multiple of 12!!

The pattern is actually taken from this blog

Are you on Facebook? Ask on 'Chit, chat and crochet uk' immediate and brilliant advice.

You might struggle if your foundation chain isn't a correct multiple though.

I love Lucy from attic24!

I love Lucy as well!!!

I travelled over to Yarndale this year and was delighted to meet her (no I'm not a stalker!!!).
She's a truely lovely lady and her blogs are inspiring.

Thank you for the facebook suggestion - sadly, due to my job, I'm not allowed facebook so I'm hoping the wisdom of MN will help!

Polter That's perfect, thank you.

And FiftyNine - you were right, it is the first option.

Thanks everyone.

If you follow the link for "neat ripple Stitch" on the attic 24 blog that you linked to, there is a tutorial showing that it's two trebles into the top chain of the chain 3 from the previous row. Apologies if I've just stated the obvious

FiftyNineOhEight · 11/12/2016 20:58

Glad you got it sorted!

It doesn't particularly matter what the length of your foundation chain is - you can simply complete the necessary pattern repeats and then undo any left over chains.
