'Crinkle' material for baby toys?

I am making DS an octopus and filling/attaching to each leg some sort of sensory material.

Can I use any sort of cellophane to make a crinkly/rustle noise that you get in baby toys? Any tips for what works well? The rest of the toy would be hand washable.

Also, I'm planning to sew some big buttons on for the eyes and on one leg. Would you use the acrylic wool I used for the rest of the toy? I was thinking of doubling up with some thick nylon thread as well.

I made some raggy blankets with sections of crinkly material - the plastic from a cereal bag works brilliantly!
I wouldn't sew buttons on at all, there are no hand sewn buttons on baby toys for very good reason, it may be cute but not worth the risk. Could you find some button print fabric and appliqué the fabric on?

I used the packaging that holds tins of tuna together - it sounds great

Space blankets are super-noisy. You can get them in the pound shop.

I wouldn't put buttons on either.

Some great ideas, thanks. I'm now going round the house crinkling different plastics to see which will work best. I may rethink the buttons.

I've used empty baby wipe packets. Fabulously crinkly
