How do so get started in crochet?

Exactly as it says. Can anyone point me in the direction of a reasonable tutorial for a (moderately) intelligent woman? How much kit will I need?

My big plan is to crochet a tea cosy. How many decades of practise will I need to achieve such a dream...?

Well done! I taught myself using the crochet crowd and am honing my skills following the sophies universe CAL on you tube. Each row is a different stitch type so it's good to learn on

And now I seem to have made some sort of...octopus-jellyfish-hybrid-thingy. Now might be the time to find a pattern I can do before I release any further yard-monstrosities on the world!!
