Crochet: Can you get away with a little bit of imprecision?

Me again (novice crochet addict).

I've started a chevron pattern, will probably end up a scarf. Really I'm just toying with it as I've never done it before so it's all just learning for me at the moment.
However, I love the work I've done so far and am loathe to undo it all to get to the root of my first mistake...I think I must have either missed a stitch somewhere or added an extra one, or possibly both! Anyway, it's bugging me a bit, every time I go up and down my chevrons that some have four chains in between, as per the pattern, and one or two have five. It looks ok and don't think it's noticeable but I'm 14 rows in and am at that point where I could either just carry on or undo and redo...

So - are you all super precise and real perfectionists, or do you sometimes let little errors slip in?

Well I don't mind, but the crochet police will probably be round later on :-D

I would say it's ok if it is only in one row, you can usually compensate for that, and I frequently do, but if it means the blanket is going to have one chevron bigger or smaller than the others in every row I think I would have to undo it, sorry.

I am not by nature terribly precise in general in the things I do, but it seems very anti crochet!
However I really do want to get I right.
Once I've fiddled and diddled a bit more with various stitches, I can't wait to just experiment a bit with my own patterns and combinations.

I am lackadaisical in most areas but knitting and crochet have to be right for me. As a beginner though you could just see it as a test piece and look back to see how far you've come. I wouldn't though. 😁

Have you done enough to know that the problem won't multiply or compound itself as you go on? Some counting issues just get worse and worse, particularly in circular patterns. But some don't - if it's one of those I'd be the type to just push on.

Glad to hear it happens to even the more experienced. Maybe as I practise more I will figure out ways to bodge it/make up for it later. Even if it ends up not very noticeable, I will still know!
Gosh, this precision is so unlike me
I've just discovered stitch markers so will be ultra meticulous and start again. Btw, I've spent so much time fiddling about, I may as well have just redone it and I probably would have finished by now

I am very laissez-faire about most things, but a crochet blanket where I know I have done an extra stitch or missed one will drive me to fury, so I always unpick

I do weigh biscuit dough and buns too though, so maybe I am less free form than I claim. 3)

As heartbreaking as it is to rip it out, it's SO satisfying when you do it perfectly. When it's finished you'll be delighted with yourself.

LittleDitty you are so right. Best not do it at all if it's not right, right? I want to feel that crochet satisfaction! What a fabulous hobby, though, seriously. I wasted so many hours on crap like candy crush and what did I achieve??!!

I've just unpicked and redone my work and got it right this time. It feels so much better now, knowing it's spot on! Glad I didn't go the bodge route 

Also. Just googled freeform crochet  - random swirly, scraggy things and ugly (to me) irregular shapes...I think I'll stick to bog standard follow-a-pattern crochet!

I'll post a pic when I've made more progress - that will give me extra motivation!

Once it's as big as a scarf, it will be a thing of beauty in its own right. Nobody will get close enough to notice the odd extra stitch, so really it's down to how much it will irritate you to know it's not quite perfect!

I always say my mistakes are where the love was stitched in :) (I don't sell my work though)
