How can I make fairy wings for my 3 year old?

They need to match her purple dress. I have some spare transparent material left over. How do I attach the wire to the material? How do I join the wires together at the back? And how do I make shoulder straps so she can keep the wings on? I could go out and buy some, but purple ones are hard to come by and they tend to be expensive - and I enjoy a challenge! Advice please?

Well I made butterfly wings (so might not be suitable) with a large rectangle of fabric

I tied the top corners to a hair bobble and put them on her wrists

Then I used a hair butterfly clip to attach it(The middle in length and width) to the neck of DD's dress

This is great for dressing up too

I would do what katymac has done and go for floaty wings secured at the wrists rather than semi-rigid wired ones which will only get bashed up at school anyway!
Small velcro pads tacked to the shoulders of the dress and to each wing would secure.
I would then make lavish use of sequins and irridescent ribbon to achieve a butterfly wing effect.
All she has to do is raise her arms and the effect will be gorgeous, and a lot less cumbersome than fixed wings.
I know this because I made some (very pretty, I was told by everyone ) rigid marabou angel wings for dd for Christmas and a lot of crossover gold ribbon ties were needed to keep them on, plus, they did get bashed. She would definitely have been more comfortable in floaty wings.

Not being clever with a needle, I can recommend the fairy wings that H&M does. They're brilliant & they're cheap.

You could always use them as a base & replace the existing material with your own.

yes I was going to suggest the H & M ones. We have white and pink. They're cheap. You could get them and spray them over purple?
