Sewing experts, where are you?

Is there a topic for sewing? I couldn't find it.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone will be able to help turn this skirt into something else. It is incredibly short (either I shrunk it on holiday last year, or I've grown about half a foot in height. I'll guess the former).

It buttons all the way down so I thought I could maybe wear it as a bandeau top, but alas, it's not wide enough. What else could I do with it? I love the fabric and want to wear it so so much. I should also add, I don't really know what I'm doing with sewing, but I do want to learn and I do have a sewing box.

I can't think of anything to wear, but it would make nice bunting! If it's gathered into the waist band, cut off the waist band and iron flat before chopping it up. Do you have a sewing machine?

If you give the dimensions of the fabric, maybe some others might have better ideas.

It would make pretty bunting! Aside from draping it round my neck though, it would be a shame to not be able to wear it. I don't have a sewing machine but I can borrow one, or sew by hand.

How about getting a fabric to go with it and adding a longer underskirt? A plain pale pink or something?

That's a good idea, or maybe I could cut it down to be a block waist band and then have the plain fabric as the actual skirt bit. Hmmmm

Neck buff. My neck is always cold in winter, and they double as ear muffs when I'm on a rainy cold run.

(I luffs this hot weather, nothing is cold!)

I'd add tulle or a co-ordinating fabric to lengthen it. You could add elastic or corset the back if you want it as a top or cut away most of the back and make a halter neck

You could turn it in to peplum for a tshirt in a coordinating colour. I did this with one of DDs old dresses or a cushion cover?

Depending on how the fit is, I'd cut a V at the front which will also provide more room and add a halter strap (2 lengths of fabric, right side together stitch the sides. Turn right way and stitch to the top) if you need more room in the back cut out a square using the side seams as a guide so the bust area only has the front triangle cups (if you see what I mean.) To add definition you could stitch a couple of darts or use shirting elastic or even regular elastic around the top back/under bust. To bring it in but if you don't have massive boobs you probably won't need to do that.
