Any tips for crocheting from a graph

I've decided to make a graphgan and I'm under no illusions this thing will take me weeks to do as I'm both a chronic procrastinator and painfully slow at crocheting. But nevertheless I've found a graph generator and I'm determined to make one. So I ask for your help on how to make the process less painful please!

And if anyone can recommend an affordable yarn with equivalent colours to lionbrand I'd be very grateful.

No idea why you are making a graph are you writtung patterns? The odd book that I've used that's had graphs I have just written them out long hand so less confusing. Can you explain more?

Not at all helpful but I consider myself quite an experienced crocheter and I'm not brave enough to go anywhere near a graphgan!

Thanks, Im doing it because I can't find anything vaguely like the pattern I want so I found this site, stitchboard.com that converts pictures to patterns. I'm not doing anything exciting, just a simple cartoon character, I'm not that brave!

It also doesn't just generate the graph but the stitch count per row too
