...well I couldn't possibly go (you know, ds still needs me in the evenings), but I would love to learn to knit. Any recommendations for a bible on how to get started from scratch?

Really FMF, well done! I have yet to get that far, but I have seen a local wool sale advertised for Sunday so I think I'll have a mosey down there and see if I can get any bargains.

Tamum, we do go back to Edinburgh every now and again (to get my 'fix' of the place ) so next time I will give you a shout

There's a good kids' book called "Kids Learn to Knit" by Lucinda Guy so if your LO(s) is/are old enough you could get that and learn together! (I can knit, but have bought the book for my 3 year old on the basis that it might not be around when she's old enough to learn!) She also does a nice book of patterns for 0-4 year olds. (got mine on Amazon)

If you get round to knitting stuff for kids, don't under-estimate the time involved - better to do it a bit big to grow into. I'm two-thirds of the way through a gorgeous cardi in size 3-4 and my monster child has just hit age 4-5 in shop-bought clothes. I'm hoping it comes up big or I will have a very happy friend who'll have it (she has a normal-size girl!!)
