Knitters - any one tried a Addi knitting machine?

This one - www.amazon.co.uk/Addi-Express-Knitting-Machine-Black/dp/B000XT3OPG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

Are they any good? Worth the money? Or is it destined to become the arts and crafts equivalent of the smoothie maker I bought and used once?

I made afghan blankets for my kids and several people have since asked if I could make them one too. The ones I made my kids took forever, I got bored and abandoned them several times, plus I'm terrible for starting things and never finishing them, so I thought this could be a way to knock up plain squares quite quickly.

I'm currently knitting one for my Grandmother, which is a mix of cabled squares and plain stocking stitch squares. I was going to knit the cabled squares by hand then whizz though the stocking stitch squares on there.

I'd love a proper flat knitting machine but I just can't afford one, is this a good compromise?

Thanks!

Looks too light to be much good I'm afraid. Have you looked at second hand knitting machine? I got mine from eBay for £20 and it then needed a £10 repair.

Thanks!

The reviews were a bit mixed, plus looking at it more in depth it won't do what I really want it for anyway

I'll have a look around for a proper one.

I've not got the Addi, but I do have the Prym Maxi knitting machine which is similar but about a third of the price. It's excellent once you get the hang of it and does do both circular knitting and flat panels, which you can easily sew together to make bigger items.

Thanks!

Can I ask, can you alter the width of the knitting? I want to be able to knit different size squares.

Yes, you'd just cast on with the amount of needles you wanted to use and leave the rest empty.

OK, fab!

Some of the reviews seemed to be suggesting that the size was fixed.

Thank you!

I've also got a 'Bond' knitting machine - they were really popular in the eighties and nineties, but they can still be picked up really easily on EBay. Those are even better and faster than the circular ones. I got my last one for about 25 quid. Can you tell I love knitting gadgets?
