Not sure but you really need pattern, and that will tell you how much. You could always just look at the back as well, to get an idea

ah

yes, see that is the other prob, can't find pattern I like. want non-buttoning collar and long sleeves but also needs to be so piss easy an eegit could do it in the dark.

problem may be solved. just bought a bunch of tea towels from ikea, with which to make dd an a line dress for said weddings
. they come in a contrasty set. might make ds shirt with contrasty tea towels. at least they will then match .

definately look at patterns, if you google there are some websites. Childrens patterns do tend to be very dated. You won't need to worry about cutting on the bias that's only for dresses or skirts def not a shirt.

Making it from t towels sounds ambitious to me esp if you haven't really sewn anything - I wouldn't try it and am fairly experienced.

why is that ambitious? surely they are just bits of cloth?

I do actually want a dated shirt. I think this is the problem. A nice 50s style shirt would be lovely. Am knitting a nice sleeveless pullover to go with it, methinks. why, I do not know.

OK, this is for short sleevs and it's just over 1m for a 5 year old, so 1.5 ought to do. If you could bear to get 2m that would allow for weird layouts in the pattern. Nice to see you back by the way

tamum · 16/12/2006 20:54

That would be sleeves

oh ta, tamum, and thanks. its worryingly pleasant to be back. I am pretending to sew up dp's xmas clanger in order to justify being here...

now that is exaclty what I am looking for except for the short sleeves. actually I needed a pattern brand, really, the only one I knew of was simplicity and that was being too 80s. I have until July though, am just starting now cos i have no freaking idea what I am doing (fabric doesn't really have holes in, to join up, like knitting )

excellent...

July isn't too bad... If you ever need several patterns it's remarkably cheap to order them direct from the US, I've done that a few times. Way cheaper than JL when the exchange rate is good. I had a quick look at Vogue too but they don't seem to be interested in little boys

ah. that is most useful.

am planning to learn to sew in the new year. that is my resolution.

so far i have bought quite a lot of tea towels. I suspect there is more to it though...
