Technical Knitting Question - 3 needle cast-off!

OK so following from your recommendations last week, I'm trying out the 'Dumpling' Pattern from Rowan Babies. It's great as it's knitted back and sides in one piece - no sewing up!

BUT... shoulder seams are made by casting off the back and fronts together (well one at a time). Hope that makes sense.

The pattern says "holding fronts against back with WS together, cast off first 8 sts of back tog with 8 sts of right front to form right shoulder seam."

Still with me? Well if you can imagine, with WS together, ie. RS facing out, the shoulder seam sort of sits out as opposed to inside as it would if you backstitched it.

Or have I done it wrong? [very confused emoticon]

Am going to bed as my head is too woolly to make sense of this just now! Will check back tomorrow.

Help PLEASE!!!

I did find one video which showed the technique with WS facing out (ie RS together) which looked more like it.

Standard shoulder seams do normally stick out, iirc. I'll get my Montse out and see what I can see. I don't fully understand your description of what you've done, I'm afraid.

Oh dear...

bottom of this page is what I expected it to look like. But the seam is sitting out of the RS instead of through to the WS.

If I knitted the RSs together you wouldn't see it. But the instructions definitely say WSs together.

Any clearer? (Am G76 with a name change, btw)

Hmmm, St. Montse says you can do it either way (raised or hidden). Personally, I like a raised shoulder seam, but if you don't, then undo it, and do it the other way around.

You could of course make it properly invisible with a Kitchener stitch [evil emoticon]. Seriously, cool stitch, but complete pita to do ...

(And probably generally not suitable for shoulders, thanks to the pressure/stretching thing.)

Have just never seen a raised seam. (sheltered life maybe). Might try and undo it.

Thanks
